Showtime's 'Penny Dreadful'

The series first announced earlier this year, Showtime's "Penny Dreadful" has today confirmed that Eva Green and Josh Hartnett are set to play leading roles.

 

"Penny Dreadful" is a frightening psychological thriller created, written and executive produced by three-time Oscar nominee John Logan (Hugo, The Aviator, Gladiator) and executive produced by Logan's Desert Wolf Productions, along with Oscar winner Sam Mendes (American Beauty, Skyfall) and Neal Street's Pippa Harris (Revolutionary Road, "Call The Midwife"). 

 

Hartnett will take on the role of Ethan Chandler, a charming American who finds himself trapped in the darkest corners of Victorian London, while Green will play Vanessa Ives, a seductive and formidable beauty full of secrets and danger.

 

Of the eight episodes, the first two will be directed by Juan Antonio Bayona, who helmed The Orphanage and the acclaimed film, The Impossible starring Naomi Watts in her Oscar-nominated performance.

 

"Penny Dreadful" will begin shooting this fall in London and will air in 2014.

Deadline report that Bille Piper is joining the likes of Josh Hartnett, Timothy Dalton, Eva Green, Reeve Carney, Rory Kinnear and Harry Treadaway in the cast of Penny Dreadful for Showtime. Her character is not named (so we don't know if she'll be playing an established horror icon) but apparently she'll appear as "an Irish immigrant trying to escape her dark past". Skyfall scribe John Logan is set to write all eight episodes of the series, with the director of that movie Sam Mendes executive producing. The first episode will be helmed by The Orphanage director Juan Antonio Bayona.

I always did have a bit of a soft spot for Billie Piper...

 

 

Are you sure it is supposed to be soft?  :laugh:
