David O. Russell's new film chronicles FBI's 1978 ABSCAM sting operation, designed to bring down a series of corrupt public officials, hence the jaunty outfits and hairstyles. Bale plays the FBI-employed con artist charged with setting up the sting, while Cooper plays the FBI agent overseeing matters. Jennifer Lawrence and Amy Adams are also on board as Bale?s wife and lover respectively.
