illage3
It was your number one and only reason you gave for why the Android market was inferior. But being that they both have had malware, it's a pretty weak reason. On the opposite side of that issue, Android gets to have apps that do anything. Apple removes apps that upset them or provide better alternatives to their own apps. Being that I have at least half a brain, I'm pretty safe from the malware in the Android app store. This is Apple induced logic. All computers have always had malware. It typically only affects people who click and download everything they see, just like in the app stores. If the Play Store was mostly malware with only a few valid apps, you'd have a point. It's not though, so I'd consider that reasoning invalid. My EX-Girlfriends iPod got Malware that infected her computer when she plugged it in. Just because Malware doesn't affect the device doesn't mean it isn't there. I've not had any Malware on Android myself. I don't download every app under the sun. psmoked and fusi0n 2 Share
Dutchie64
Yup, The factury making the HD's for the iPoD had a infected set of pc's doing the formatting of the iPod drives. Result: infected, OOB iPods. Plugged it in for the first time on your PC... voila... malware on your PC.... This confused a lot of users as why the virusscanner would complain after plugging in a brand new iPod ;-)
Noir Angel
Firstly, it's not Google's strategy they only provide the OS, it's up to the OEM what devices they ship, and secondly it's actually premium handsets like the Galaxy S3 and S4 that are selling most, not the cheap handsets. FloatingFatMan
Here you go: http://lmgtfy.com/?q=Android+Malware The subject here is malware on the official Play store, and despite that ZDNet "article", it's not something that's actually a problem on the store. A small amount of it gets on there, but Google remove it as fast as its reported, and the iStore isn't immune to that sort of thing either. So no, it's not a "problem" on the official store, at all. psmoked 1 Share
Noir Angel
Nobody can catch everything, especially when you get the volume of submissions that the play store does. I've never have problems though, but it stands to reason Dot Matrix would be here to jump on the anti google bandwagon. psmoked 1 Share
AJerman
That was completely uncalled for, buddy. Sorry to use you as an example. My point was, only with Apple's walled garden mentality does a little bit of malware that most people will never download make a product bad. We've had malware on basically every computer we've ever built. It doesn't take too much intelligence to avoid it really. Malware on Android really isn't that bad an it's not exclusive to Android either, so that's why I say the argument that the Play Store is inferior because of some malware is pretty weak. techbeck
The whole article is just flamebait, really. Oh I know, I also find it funny how quick people scoff at sources from ZDNET, BGR, and other places when it relates to the product they like but no comment on the products they dont like. Actually, I frequently scoff at ZDNet. I just don't always read threads about products I have no interest in.

Somebody asked for a reason why the Play store can be inferior, and I gave one... My opinion is that they are basically the same since they both offer basically the same apps. There are minor advantages/disadvantages of both, but in the end, if you want Spotify, Steam, ESPN, Facebook, or whatever mainsteam app, both will have the same offerings. DeadEndAccount
Funny enough I've used some ZTE and Huawei 'low end' Android phones and at times I've actually preferred the stripped down vanilla Android they include over the butchered and bastardised version which Samsung and HTC ship. With that being said though most of the friends I know who have such low end phones hardly have many applications installed - maybe their banking application from their local bank and possibly Facebook with the browser being the most often used. End of the day though volume can come back to bite you in the backside if you fail to keep up on quality - short term gain for long term problems are a possibility.
