Your tech confessions: What are you afraid to admit?

Poor Graphics student accept donations.  :ike:

on topic:

I have no idea how to root my phone.

One of the easiest things to learn. So many simple tutorials. Especially if you have an unlocked bootloader, it is only two commands (if you can get ADT to work of course).

I just installed the Internet

Did you delegate each task to a different family member, like researching what is better - {Dial-up, ISDN, DSL, or Cable}? and have someone research the best browser? if you did then you are a pro!

What is a ISDN and DSL. I have Cable TV on my 19-inch CRT Zenith. And Netscape is the best browser. No research needed.

I have no idea how to even go about making an animated gif :(

I have a $200 video card and don't do PC gaming. I rarely even watch videos and just mostly browse the web or use Excel :shiftyninja:

Pfft. RedHat Linux 7.3 ftw.

RedHat was the spawn of satan even in those days. Best RPM distro of the time was Mandrake ;)

RedHat releases were hit and miss, granted. 7.3 was ok, 8.0 (first release with the Bluecurve theme for all desktops) was buggy.

As for Mandrake, it didn't have much appeal over RedHat or SUSE to me. YMMV.

2. Still have an Amiga 500 in perfect working order. Still play FA-18 Interceptor on it from time to time.

I have an Amiga 500 with FA-18 Interceptor too (Y) (and many other games). I believe that's the game with the copy protection that requires you to move a paper like wheel in various ways, to obtain a code before the game will finish loading.

My Amiga did work the last time i used it which was around 2000ish when my PC was broken. I'll have to set the Amiga up again sometime and see if it still does.

I actually got thinking about the Amiga the other day when i noticed The Chaos Engine was going to be re-released on Steam, classic Amiga game!

Wow here we go (No particular dated order)

1) My neowin.net password has been the same since my account's inception (and I had one that pre-dated the dark times when Neowin was gone)

2) I pirated the 56K Kflex or X2 firmware upgrade for an old Us Robotics modem I had back in the day.

3) I really wanted the Microsoft Games that were on demo machines at Sears so i would bring a floppy with me, copy the .exe and d.lls with the same name, bring them home to test and go back for any files that it kept asking for until I could play Chips Challenge and all the other goodies.

4) I run a domain at home using Technet software so I can get a better hands on learning experience.

  b) Upgrading to a full-time Action Pack subscription to be a bit more 'legit'

5) I ran Windows Neptune as a full-time OS.

6) I ran a server with BeOS for a long time.

7) I do all my porn browsing through a tightly controlled hidden virtual machine so my Fiance' never runs into it.

8) I do PC repair for my local job but I moonlight (but really only for customers I had before I took the new job)

9) I am addicted to reading technews.

8) I have over 1.8K on my Newegg Preferred account and keep buying stuff (granted even with new purchases I still pay it down)

  b) I have 3 60GB SSDs laying around because I upgraded to 120 / 240GB SSDs within 3 months of buying the 60GBs

9) I waited too long to RMA two 1.5TB Seagate drives and missed out on getting them replaced in warranty (they broke a year before the warranty ended)

10) In High School I would routinely force install the Microsoft Remote Desktop client on Windows 98 machines protected with "Deep Freeze" so I could use my OWN computer at home to do schoolwork/photoshop.

11) I 'hacked' a grade

12) I can type without looking at the keyboard but I do not use all my fingers.

13) I tricked a friend to run tool that I programmed (gave him some BS reason like it was a benchmark tool) to determine if he stole ram from me (and I was right)

14) To this day I believe that the RC2 build of Windows Me was a ton more stable then Gold.

15) I was a regular member of the old #winbeta effnet chan and thats how I would get my beta builds

16) on an old website I hosted, I had a hidden download link (through a flash banner) that would let you download the current beta build of windows me (never had the Gold build posted though) (no one ever found the download link)

17) I have violated the terms of service for my ISP for countless years by hosting a website.

18) I know some programming but I have a strange knack for finding loopholes in any system.

I think I got a bit carried away here :-P

I fell for the ol' 'take a screenshot of their desktop, set it as the wallpaper and hide the icons trick' just a couple months ago. I thought I had a virus or something, I got really mad and my Wife just burst out laughing and calling me a noob and crap. I can't believe I fell for it.

2) My computer is a Frankenstein of parts I found laying around work/home or in the garbage room of my building. I can afford new parts....

This fascinates me. Can you tell me your specs?
