Microsoft and Hulu Plus are teaming up to bring Xbox 360 owners a way to check out the content of the Hulu streaming service on the console for free this weekend. Normally, accessing Hulu Plus would require a paid Xbox Live Gold subscription but from now until August 4th that barrier has been lifted and anyone with an Xbox 360 can access the service for free.

As posted on Microsoft's Xbox Wire website, the free weekend is partly a promotion to help Hulu Plus with the launch of their new original show, The Awesomes. The animated TV series, co-created by Saturday Night Live's Seth Meyers, is a half-hour, 10 episode show that centers on a super hero who has to create a new version of a well known super-team after the major super heroes decide to quit.

Microsoft is also letting Xbox 360 owners try out Hulu Plus beyond this weekend's free event with a trial offer that gives two free months of access to Hulu Plus, versus the normal month of free streaming videos. Hulu is clearly trying to get a boost in its audience by launching more original programming, much like its biggest rival Netflix.
