Police arrested a naked man in the parking lot of a hotel after observing him rolling around on the ground attempting to put out flames that were engulfing him; only problem was he was not actually on fire.

The Journal reports that the man was arrested on drug charges Tuesday after he was found by police rolling around naked and shouting he was on fire in the parking lot of a hotel in Berkeley County.

Riley J. Newman, 50, of Deming, was later arraigned on felony charges of manufacturing crack cocaine and transporting a controlled substance into the state, as well as misdemeanor charges of possession of cocaine, obstructing a law enforcement officer and indecent exposure.

According to court records, at about 12:23 a.m. Tuesday, the West Virginia State Police were dispatched to a report of a naked male causing a disturbance at the Holiday Inn Express in Spring Mills.

When police arrived at the scene, they saw a nude man, later identified as Newman, rolling from side to side on the ground in the parking lot and screaming, "I'm on fire. I'm on fire," records show.

Newman was asked if he had consumed any illegal substances, but troopers said he wouldn't answer their questions. Inside Newman's hotel room, police found a charred metal spoon containing cocaine and baking soda. While at the hospital, Newman said he bought the cocaine in Delaware, transported it to West Virginia and used the baking soda to turn the powder cocaine into "free base" crack cocaine before smoking it, records show.
