vip
I have had many Android phones and many iPhone. I had the first of each to come out. I recently switched my iPhone 5 to go to the Samsung Galaxy S4 and couldn't be happier. My biggest thing was the camera quality. I am a single dad raising my children alone so I love the capture pictures whenever I can, and the high quality camera the S4 offers was amazing, I also find my S4 to be much faster than my iPhone 5 was, launching the same apps. Instagram, FB, Hootsuite for example. I love both Operating Systems, I just love Android more. My mom also recently switched from her iPhone 5 to a Note II. She said the screen size is amazing, and Android is very nice. She has only ever had Blackberry and iOS previously.
Growled Member Posted August 8, 2013 Member Share Posted August 8, 2013 Of everyone I know, friends family, co-workers, and whatnot, no one has a WinPhone. No one. I've never seen anyone even owning one where I work, shop or anywhere. I've never seen them except for still on the shelves. Just my personal experience here in the U.S.A. ... I only know of one person that has one and he hates it.
Melfster
My Experience was little bit different between the S4 and iphone 5. I find the iphone 5 just as fast if not faster when launching the camera app. The Verizon S4 that has lot of junk that Samsung and verizon which sucks. I did have problem with wifi with my router which is known problem and samsung has acknowledged is known problem with various routers. Check out the Samsung forums the filled with people having all kinds of problems. I am not saying its bad phone it just not that great. IOS 7 on iphone is really nice. threetonesun
Um a few things: 1) This is the country that thought that Blackberry was revolutionary because most had never seen a top end Nokia 2) This is the country that has pagers while most of the world was already texting. 3) This is the country where people still commonly use cheques like its 1995. 4) This is the country where the govt actively protects Apple and other US companies in a very nationalistic borderline facist way, while allowing its own companies to break WTO free trade agreements and use crap like geographic price gouging on said "ally" nations. This is a guy who clearly has never been to America.
+mram Subscriber² Posted August 8, 2013 Subscriber² Share Posted August 8, 2013 I honestly think it's just a cost issue. Most people seem to like whatever phone because of the "killer app" ... apps have been known to drive people over the fence for damn near anything, to another ecosystem. That's largely why Microsoft won't do a full iOS port of Office, because they can tout it out as a feature for the windows 8 tablets. Also as it was pointed out, we get subsidies here in the US where you probably don't in the rest of the world. However, the biggest point that people should be asking is ... once you have it, do you like it? Is there something missing? Also, and this is kind of important, how good is that "walled garden"? It's important to appreciate the solidity of the ecosystem because developers won't make the killer phone/tablet app that might cost $25+ or more if that same app can be easily pirated, or the environment is so fragmented they have no way to determine what the projected sales would be, or limit features to a lowest common denominator. Having said that, everyone has to admit that if a tablet version of Office were released for iOS that it would sell like absolute hotcakes. Microsoft is hoping that people will see Office as the Killer App drawing people over the fence, and stay for ... ? I don't think people buy Windows or Android phones just to call people, or that the built-in apps are sufficient. They buy them because that's all they need, they're cheap, or they have apps they want -- some combination of all of that. You don't "sell" someone on buying a new phone just to make phone calls better. It's got to do something for them, or be cheaper. If Apple truly is making a lower-cost phone, then this may ultimately show as true, over the long term... (I realize I'm lumping tablets in here with phones, but I think the ability to make phone calls is really kind of a minor issue when comparing small, or tablet specific devices)
glen8
When people say things like, I bought an iphone because everyone else has one, that is actually a very good reason. Try making a video call to an iphone from your android phone. You can't......and before everyone jumps up and down screaming GET SKYPE! nobody wants to download extra apps when it's built into the OS. Find my friends..........only works on iPhone..........and again, before everyone screams Google+..........again, if everyone has iPhones good luck finding them through anything other than the apple app. Apple is a closed ecosystem, if you want to use those features with people who have iPhones...get an iPhone because nobody is going to get apps to accommodate you p.s. Boz
Nah.. it's crushing iPhone in the US as well.. and I don't know what bars and places people go to .. but everywhere I go I can rarely see an iPhone.. The only place where iPhone had still significant presence was in Cali.. since I was in San DIego and Los Angeles last 2 weeks. corrosive23 1 Share

It's actually pretty close in the US. iOS has around 40% market share and slowing growing. Android still has the majority at 52%, and they are stagnant or declining slightly. When the next iPhone(s) launch, we'll see a sizable shift. http://appleinsider.com/articles/13/08/07/apples-iphone-widens-lead-in-us-smartphone-market-gaining-on-android

ctebah
A buddy just switched to galaxy s4, from an iphone. The galaxy is an amazing phone, so many features, etc, but he had some problems with pictures and videos. Had to visit a few websites to figure out what's up and to fix it. Finally he went back to an iPhone and sent me this message: "###### a system where I have to visit websites and tweak settings to do the basic things that should work out of the box". It's only his experience though, not saying it's everyone.
TCA
Yep most of the people I know have an iPhone. These people preach it like there is no better product out there. :s To each their own, but it's nice having something that is different and the HTC One gets a lot of attention from these iPhone users. They're more impressed by how smooth the device is and its' features. iPhone's features imo are lack-luster... I've owned one and at first it was "pretty cool" BUT I started to hate it later down the line. Went straight back to Android. Personally, I have no desire to own one again... It just seems to me that iPhone is just good for music and taking pictures. if you wanna add music, files, photos etc to your Android, just plug it into your PC or SD card and copy them over, iPhone on the other hand ends up having to use iTunes for literally everything. Or if it's a movie or a video you downloaded that isn't in a format that it supports you have to convert then sync (Yes I am aware there are apps for formats).Ringtones are a PITA as well. That's too much of a headache... Let the cross examinations of my post begin! Off to pitch a loaf. [Off-topic] Time I didn't have internet, I've missed ya'll. The whole point of smart phones is that they provide a base that you can download apps on to do more advanced things. If nobody wants to download apps, then go back to using flip phones. Even my parents and grandparents know how to download apps. Charisma and Duffydemon 2 Share

Download an app, register a separate account, hope that in the future nothing breaks between said app and the hardware. I mean, it's not hard, but I do understand why it is a concern, especially if it's a feature you use often.

You cannot without installing something like SKYPE. People deal with installing apps on PCs all the time. Seems like it would be better to have both, especially in the case of video conferencing, when simple hardware changes can screw with the software.
