AJerman
Of course Android has a larger userbase, Android is available on low-end devices. That is a huge market, and one Apple has no interest in competing in. So they're making low end, cheap, plastic iPhones why then?
Elliot B.
So they're making low end, cheap, plastic iPhones why then? 1) That hasn't been proven yet. 2) Would be to capture the mid-market.
Astra.Xtreme
I would say it is pretty even when it comes to what something looks like and the software itself. I dont know how many people I asked the question "Why do you have an iPhone" and the response was "Because it is cool or looks cool" Were they high school age or younger, haha? I've asked people the same thing and the iPhone users mostly say because it's easy to use. And the Android users mostly say they bought theirs because of the bigger screen. And the Windows Phone users say they get the best of both worlds, but the lack of apps completely ruins it.
techbeck
Were they high school age or younger, haha? Some high school, some in their early 20s or 30s...but do not really know what they have anyway. I found that lots get what their friends have or what they saw in TV.
AJerman
1) That hasn't been proven yet. 2) Would be to capture the mid-market. I think it's been pretty well proven at this point, and I don't think it's for mid-market, that's what last year's iPhones hit already. Cheaper iPhones will likely be for selling free on contract, probably targeting more of the teenager crowd, or unsubsubsidized purchasers such as a lot of international buyers. I could be wrong, but that would make more sense than trying to target the middle when a year old iPhone already falls solidly in the middle. They probably saw a commercial and then whipped out the credit card. Actually that pretty much applies to anybody that pre-orders something. All of a sudden that product is junk and so is the company that makes it. Sorry, if you do not research something before you buy it...you are a moron. I dont care who you are. With all the tools available that tells about a product and product reviews...there is no excuse not to research before you buy. Shadrack
Doesn't seem like most the people I know have switched either way. My wife had a terrible experience with her EVO 4G on Sprint and has since switched to iPhone. Most of the people at my work that were iPhone users 2-3 years ago remain as iPhone users, and same with Android users. The few that have upgraded from their feature phones in that time span have upgraded to an Android phone (I think).
dead.cell
Unlike one phone you have with iPhone, you have multiple factors, designs and sizes with Android.. so yeah, some people love big screens, some people like small screens, some people like cheap phones, some people like aluminum body slick designed phones, some people like completely customizable phones and appearanace (upcoming moto-x).. that's the beauty and quality of Android ecosystem.. there's something for every taste. with iPhone you have one stale, ****ty phone that hasn't changed in 5+ years that you've been rebuying over and over again.. not sure how anyone can claim that Android is the one that sucks. Funny thing is, I just got done talking with the beautiful Samsung reps at the local Best Buy here. We were bantering on about phones, and I told them I was considering an iPhone due to all the issues I've had with Android. Of course, they say it's like just my phone and getting a newer phone will help alleviate those problems. When we got to talking about apps, I suggested them to download this one app I personally enjoy on their's, and she got an error. The timing could not have been more perfect. I looked her in the eyes and said, "Aaaand that's why I'm tired of Android." If looks could kill, I'd be a dead man hahah. Thankfully, I was only joking, as I'm realistic and am not basing my opinion entirely on one aspect. Also, I'd rather not sound like a total douche when talking to a woman hah. I understand that nothing in this world is perfect, and that both sides have their issues, but I've just been consistently annoyed with Android at this point that I'm willing to try something new. Considering how well my iPod Touch held up back before I even had a smart phone, I'd welcome joining the "dark side" again. I'd love to go with Windows, but if I'm annoyed with Android already with apps, I'm pretty sure a Windows Phone will be the reason I blow my brains out. As far as looks are concerned though, all three major platforms have excellent looking phones. The problem is what you want from them. szo 1 Share

So let me get this straight.. because one app is crashing on you you decided to hate Android? That your persistently trying to run on multiple Android phones without actually saying hey it might be the freakin' app. I have had ZERO problems with Android for years.. and when I say this I mean completely flawless, smooth experience.. No crashes, no hiccups, no slow downs.. nothing.. Then I got an iPhone for a few weeks and the thing was crashing, safari browser crashed like a gazillion times, apps have been dragging like crazy when there were too many open and Apple's cloud is mindblowingly frustrating. It just sucks.. The experience on iOS is terrible right now.. not only it's stale but the iOS7 looks absolutely atrocious. How anyone can choose an iPhone over slick new Android phones that are not only super powerful, have better battery, bigger, more beautiful screens in full HD, Android being super super snappy with so many cool things, especially multiple accounts introduced in Android 4.3.. is totally beyond me. Boz
It's not a fair comparison at all. a few devices vs. just about every other device on the planet. It's absolutely a fair comparison.. One chose to be locked down, single device platform so they can milk the consumers, the other one offered an open ecosystem where anyone and their mother can make a phone with it.. It's absolutely fair.. Apple could have gone with more devices, they chose not to.. there's no whining about it now.. they chose wrong when it comes to having marketshare.. though they ripped off consumers amazingly well selling them the same phone over and over again.. but I guess that's a subjective thing. Quattrokongen
What bloat? iOS is the most slimline phone OS that's available. Even vanilla Android comes with more junk than iOS does. The funny thing here is that you believe iOS is bloat free while stock Android is not. To me, Game Center, Stock, Newsstand, Compass and Memos in iOS are bloat, because i would never use that. But the most stupid thing here is that you can't even remove that junk either, not even on a jailbroken iOS device. On Android, you can root your Android device and completely remove the junk you don't use. If you have Android 4.1.x or newer, you can even disable most of the apps you don't use without root. It's default in Android 4.1.x. So no, iOS is far from being the most slimline phone OS that's available.

Tell me, what can you remove with a jailbroken iOS device?
Shannon
These results are completely expected. Of course Android is dominating, it has devices in every single price point from the ultra-budget to the ultra-high-end. Obviously if you only want to spend $200-300AU on a phone you're going to be getting an Android device. I'd be more interested to see the Android/iPhone comparison between phones at similar price points. Me personally, my next phone is going to be a Windows Phone. My 2yr old Android phone is annoying me with how laggy the transitions are and how unresponsive the keyboard can be at time. And I shouldn't need to upgrade to a quad-core supercomputer (HTC One and Galaxy S4 I'm looking at you) just to run a damn mobile OS smoothly. iPhone I won't buy out of principle. Any company that locks the OS to their own device and then proceeds to milk consumers year-on-year with ridiculously priced, minimally upgraded revisions of said device can get bent. GotBored
To be far, Android is on hundreds of phones and iOS is only on one (iPhone) Android dominates the low-medium priced phone market which Apple doesn't even cater for. With that being said I've used all types and its only been with the S4 that android has started to work as smoothly as IOS. I do expect the Android OS to sell more than IOS in the near future but realistically the iPhone still dominates the high-end market today. Boz, don't ever change. Your argument is silly, mate. You seem to reply as if I am some how defending Apple, I'm not. What they chose to do in their business have been extremely successful. Google created as OS, and allowed every bastard to make some of the most horrible low end phones the world will ever see. It is not a fair comparison, because you are comparing hundreds of devices, what 4 or 5 devices. It doesn't matter what you think about the business decisions, or how the two companies operate, the comparison of figures is instantly flawed when comparing the two, and saying that Android is beating iOS, while correct, is sending the message that Android is more liked. That simply isn't the case, all this highlights is that Android has far more reach in the world.

Apple could have licensed iOS to others.. they chose not to.. it is perfectly fair 2) Believe it or not, while there is a lot of lowered end phones out there, the majority of Android's numbers and marketshare comes from higher end phones. Samsung alone is destroying Apple in sales of their high end phones like S-series, Note etc.. 3) Innovation and pushing technology forward is also what drives adoption. Android is simply far more advanced and better OS to iOS and people love it. It's that simple. 1. It's not fair because of how the eco systems are positioned. It doesn't matter if they chose to licence it or not, the fact that they didn't means that this comparison is flawed. 2. Believe it or not, Android sells millions of phones in markets that Apple do not compete. Again, showing that comparing these numbers is flawed. 3. Correct. And simplicity, and elegance drives sales too, hence why the iPhone, and other Apple products are so popular. Given I know your reputation around here, it's probably a good idea for me to point out the fact that I am no fanboy, and don't wish to turn this into some stupid them vs. Apple argument. I've owned 10 Android devices, 4 iOS devices, 4 WP devices, and 6 BB devices. Why have I owned 10 Android devices compared to 4 Apple devices. There are more of them available. So using your theory, and the theory that these figures are no flawed and stupid to compare, I like Android more, which simply isn't the case. I like them all, very much. You don't see them licensing out OS X... 2) That's true in the US, and other first world countries. Realize there are other countries like India and China, they would probably opt for lower end devices. This is why Android has such a high penetration rate in the world - Android device ecosystem is very diverse. 3) This is purely subjective - you might consider Android better, while others find iOS better. It really doesn't matter what other people use. Use what you like and be happy. Denis W. 1 Share
