Lillflinten
Yesterday i wrote about what my feelings for the PC as a phenomen. I felt that the bias get wrong. Maybe because my english is bad. Of coarse the PC gonna live forever, PC means Personel Computer. Only the form factor have changed. MS don?t have 90% of the market anymore and that?s give bad vibes over the world. If a person just need to check email, facebook, twitter and paying bills,a smartphone is enough. Do you wan`t to look on videos and playing some descent games. Then a tablet is enough. You can mirror most of that on a descent flatscreen. Do you need even more than that? Get a descent laptop. Or you are like i was some time ago interesting in building your own rig. Buy a desktop. My point is that a lot of people bought a device they really don`t needed and they got more choices now. Hope this solved some of meanings. Problaby half of what writing is a total mess. :-) I?m a 56 year old swede. Don`t expect to much.
Arceles
Technology is getting stagnated by this way of thinking, because it's fast for many != it's fine to be always lower end for everybody.

Dutchie64
I think most of it was all said yesterday. The PC industry is going through changes, that is a given fact, but it is not just dying. It's not that dramatic. As people already stated, the smart-phone and tablets replaced a lot of desktops and laptops, as a lot of them were only used for a little web-socializing, browsing and email. You don't need a massive desktop/screen for that. The new trend now is also smaller form-factors, like the Surface Pro and alike, and these are replacing the laptop/netbook corner. Plug in a monitor and mouse, and you have a desktop/laptoppy kind of setup. So the laptop/netbook corner is a market that will pass away in time, with some specialized models still 'there'. But for a LONG time, desktop machines will be necessary for a TON of tasks that cannot be done on a tablet. I'm in 3D animation, compositing and video/filmproduction myself, and don't see any signs of this being moved away from the desktop any time soon. Will the desktop become a niche for a certain group of computer professionals at some point? Maybe. Will most users have more than enough 'power' for the web on a ARM/Atom based tablet or smart-phone. Definitely! And whatever brand/OS you buy into, it will all become even simpler to use/upgrade/install apps, lighter, more battery friendly and so on. But for now, there are big changes in the market, and all this doom and gloom talk is from OEM's that didn't pay attention to what was happening in front of their noses. It has nothing to do with Windows8 alone, it's the combination of things that started years ago, the rise of smart-phones, tablets and now the slow economy. Growled Member Posted August 8, 2013 Member Share Posted August 8, 2013 Of coarse the PC gonna live forever, PC means Personel Computer. Only the form factor have changed. I agree. A phone or a tablet is still a personal computing device. I think it's mostly semantics that causes the confusion. I feel they all are different forms of the same basic device. However, most people seem to have it in their heads that a PC means a desktop computing device.
