6 Reasons Apple is No Longer One of China's Top 5 Smartphone Vendors

Recommended Posts

The only reason apple is top in USA is because all those vendors don't sell their phones in the US, like Xiami, ZTE, huawei and I've never even heard of yulong   Maybe if these vendors exported and marketed a bit, they gain overseas.

ZTE and Huawei are sold in the US but under the carrier's own brand and tend to be the very low end low cost segment such as the 'get a device free' on the very low tariff contracts. Apple is a premium phone and Apple is still very much a low income country for all Chinas boasting about growth. Add to that a sprinkling of economic nationalism by the Chinese Communism trashing foreign brands you get the reasons why Apple isn't making it big in China.

Oh it's the same all over the place, ZTE and Huawei, Blu, etc are very low end... But isn't this because of carrier deals to begin with?  EG "we comprise to sell your phone if you promise not to sell this this brand"?

ZTE and Huawei started off selling phones branded to the carrier but at least where I live they've moved up the value chain to where Huawei are selling their own branded phones to customers such as the Huawei Ascend Y201 and their Windows Phone 8 devices - only ZTE has maintained being just a OEM for the three major carriers where I am. Why did they start off as OEM's? because marketing devices directly costs money where as starting off as an OEM gets you in through the door, generating cash and then being able to get into a position where it is possible to take that step up to becoming a full phone producer with ones own customer facing brand. HTC was like that for many years before HTC eventually started making phones of their own.
