Just beat Halo:Combat Evolved..

reviews also say that some areas get repetitive.. and they do. does it make the game bad? not in my opinion, but it can start to drag on.

SOME reviews, not even half of the ones i read, so.. and ofcourse it doesnt make the game bad, but the thread poser said that it was booring and bad (i i remember correctly, dont wanna go back and look. ;) ohh, and it took me 3 days to make it on ALL difficulties ;) ahh, what did you say? am i the best? arh, thx ;)

the one level when you're following the floating blue guy with TONS of flood pouring out of every corner was so goddamn intense... just not enough ammo to kill them all, you have to blast a path through. amazing level. so much fun :)
yeah but that was a level where you are like...ok this is enough already. It was good until he said "only 10 more doors remaining" I was like oh gesh, this is going to be good! I never really ran out of ammo, but I did get tired of the zig-zagging through the same type setup. I mean, how many circles did I make in that level?? fighting off wave after wave was just a long ass process.

I thought the game was great though, I just wish the levels could have been designed better so they weren't so repetitive. I thought the AI was good on the guys. You try to snipe someone and they run for cover. It was funny, they must have this extra sensory perception to know when the crosshairs are on them!

i agree chorpeac. like i said in a post above, the levels can tend to drag on sometimes.. and that was definately one of them. i started to ask myself "is this ever going to end?"

Spyder: I think you mentioned this too....The vehicles ruled, and if there were more opportunities to use them that would have been awesome too. I just started playing the multiplayer and there is tons of vehicle riding goodness there!

man, you suck as hard as my english does

and that is a ****load of sucking..

Thanks for the flame, I suppose, but I'm entitled to my opinion. So far many of those who replied to this topic did agree that it was repetitive.

For the most part I was disappointed because a decent level designer could have made this game far better than it actually was. :( It wasn't just the repetition which made it bad but also the whole "run and gun" feel through most of the levels. (open a door, chuck a grenade, see 5 guys die and 10 more approach, blast the rest with a shotgun, turn a corner, open another door.. )

I played it through up to the end of the silent cartographer mission, then got bored. Its certainly too repetitive for me.

too funny, i'm in EXACT same situation. first few levels were fun. then the levels go super repetitive. i was doing one of those "was i in this room already?" thinking. gave me flashbacks to Wolfenstein 3D. even the xbox version, seen a buddy play a level, and he got 'lost' and heard him say a few times "F*K! i was already here!"

and by coincidence, Rezza, i too got to the end of "silent cartagropher" and then stopped playing. not many games made me stop playing before i reached the end, yet this was one of them.

on another note, finished Call of Duty. i couldnt put it down. i kept thinking "i wonder whats on the next level?" and kept playing til the end. its a shame how Halo has been out for 2 years, and still sucks, yet Call of Duty just came out and costs $10 less than Halo.

but to clarify, i do love Halo's first few missions, they were a blast of fun. how are the mission after silent carotgrapher? if i knew there was good levels beyond that, i might go and finish it up.

Counting the flood there are like 7 enemy types in the entire game and some of those are just color differences. I beat it on on the second hardest level (hero maybe?) in like 4 hours, I have no desire to go through on legendary.

It's all M$'s fault that the game is repetitive. If only they didn't rush it ;)

You can play in different servers or wait for the 1.03 patch. It will have a big code change for the T-K situation. Gearbox already got enough complaints :p

The game was okay, but I didn't like that fact that it didn't really run on my Ti4200. I had the details at medium, and the res at 800x600. It was worth it, cause I borrowed it from my friend. I don't think that it would have been worth buying it.

I don't know, I was sick of the game by the end of the first level. It was just run around the corner, enemies jump out! Wow. Online play is pointless unless you play during the day when kids are at school in the US. At night it's all Team killing ###### trying to kill you before you get to that phantom.

:D then you best avoid 'silent cartographer' and further levels. enemy just fall out of the sky! so much for this being a 'tactical shooter', all you do is run around and keep the left button clicked down non-stop. yay.

oh, and i finally got bored enuf to play Halo again, continued to end of silent cartographer, and .... i have to walk down the same pyramid and back thru the same levels again??!?!?!? christ! did they have one guy coding all the f*king level? "Copy/Paste.. Copy/Paste.. Copy/Paste... k, i'm done with the level generator!"

LOL

Aye. I just played through the silent cartographer again tonite. It is almost as though, half way through the game the writers just gave up. The amount of enemies you are pitted against is ridiculous. Unlike Serious Sam where this is half the fun, in Halo it is simply frustrating. If they had actually put some thought into the level design this may not have been quite so bad.

I finished HALO a while ago and I was disappointed... there were parts that had a "DOOM-esque" quality to them but by and large it was a ho-hum game.

I don't know WHY everyone raved about the vehicles in HALO - they were CRAP compared to TRIBES 2 which (even though it's an older game now) has infinitely more replay value than HALO. I won't be bothering with HALO 2.

I agree. Tribes 2 was (Is) a great game. I AM looking forward to Tribes 3. I've seen some recent footage in a gaming mag and it looks incredible. The environments are quite sexy. :)

who knows, maybe Halo 2 will be good since they have all this bonus $$ coming in from raping the PC market with a 2 year old mediocre game priced at a low low $70. :D

My friend gave me his PC copy so I didn't have to pay for it at least :D I thought it was pretty good, I mean it would've been better if my multiplayer worked but hey, not bad. Call of Duty is where it's at now though, I can't stop playing it :woot:

It wasn't bad, but that part were the stupid blue orb thing sucked bad. I took out my cd THAT I DOWNLOADED and broke it. I would have rather downloaded Britney's Dance Beat and jerked off to it then play that part again.

But other than that, it wasn't that bad of a game.
