ACTIONpack
My friend was on t-mobile with his family. He turn 22 and had to get off the plan and use this own. He works no problem. (The happen 7 months ago) He decide to stay with T-Mobile because of the price. He got the phone online and put his SIM card in the new phone. Same SIM card and not the new old. He is not into technology. I guess he thought that he needed to use the same SIM card to use this same phone number. The next 3 months he pays his bill at T-Mobile with the account number. After that he use the phone number. Well after all of this 4 months goes by and he gets a collection bill that he owns about $460. He ask me for advice but I don't know what to tell him. I know if he does not activity the phone then its not a contract I think. What should he do?
Roger H. Veteran Posted August 12, 2013 Veteran Share Posted August 12, 2013 So wait, seems like he moved his number to his own account? I think that's closing his family plan contract which caused the ETF but why is the bill being sent to him when i'm guessing his parents were the account holder? $460 also doesn't sound right as it's not that much to begin with? Needs some more details I guess. :ermm:

Roger H. Veteran Posted August 12, 2013 Veteran Share Posted August 12, 2013 Sounds like he hasn't been paying the new bill then since that's the only bill in his name. The rest would have been in his parents. If he has proof he paid then that should be a quick and easy fix.
ACTIONpack
3 months unpaid on what account? The old or the new? Got to read my first post. He got the plan 7 months ago. He paid in the store with the account number and then use his phone number which is tied to his parents account.

And must never have cancelled his number with his parents account? Why did his phone still work for 3 months if he was taken off his parents account? Nothing adds up. Because if he was accidentally paying his parent's bill, they would know.
TAZMINATOR
Contact TMobile first before starting his own single plan instead of family plan. Otherwise he ends up getting unexpected amount like you mentioned. Call and they will take care of it.

He try to contact T-Mobile about this but they said that it has gone through the process and it's in Collection company. My question is that if he never use the new SIM or anything for 7 months after they turn it off. Is the cellular contract invalid or it's activated if he never use it? Roger H. Veteran Posted August 12, 2013 Veteran Share Posted August 12, 2013 How you use your contracted device is up to you really. The fact is that you are contracted to pay for X amount of months and that's all that matters.

Is the cellular contract invalid or it's activated if he never use it? once it is activated, he must pay for that contract for his own plan. if he didn't pay for that contract, that is his problem because TM has not received the payment before they started a bill collection issue to collection company. If he thought that his parents are paying for him for new plan, His parents should have discussed this with him by now. LIke "Hey son, what is this?" while show the paper (unless they all signed up for paperless) to him. Like I said, contact TM and the issue will be solved. If the collection process started, then TM will give them the phone number so he or his parents will discuss the problem with the DC company. (DC = Debt Collection). If he wants to use same number... he can use it on new simcard.. no problem.. all he do is ask TM to transfer the number over. Otherwise he gets a new # on a new simcard. And TM can terminate the old one.
