Obviously 90% for show. However, don't be knocking crossbows. Sure, guns are more powerful, but long term, materials for upkeep of ammunition (as well as care of the weapons) will make the use of alternative ranged weaponry attractive. Especially so in terms of hunting for food etc, where reusable ammunition (bolts) can be used with little effective penalty, while conserving bullets for truly dangerous opponents (zombies, invading forces, roaming bandits etc.). Also, saving gunpowder may result in the opportunity for fireworks, and as everyone knows chicks love fireworks so it will help to repopulate after the bandits and zombies have gone.

This. There are a few hundred years since the medieval times when castles and crossbows ruled warfare. We have only been using electrical grids for the last hundred or so. He seems to have skipped a few eras of warfare here. First time someone shows up with a cannon no matter how primitive or an IED his castle is gravel.

The Castle age in Europe came crashing down with the invention of the cannon. A wall that might have taken decades to build could be knocked down in minutes.

Funny.  See insane people on the street and we avoid them at all costs.  See insane people build something, make them famous.

Exactly what do they think that thing will protect them from?  An EMP only destroys active electronics.  There will still be plenty of working fighter jets, bombers, tanks, etc. after an EMP goes off.  Besides, if sh*t hit the fan, they never considered that their enemies could use this to keep them in.  Surround the area beyond catapult range and kill anyone who exits.  Eventually they die anyhow.

No, an EMP will destroy any inadequatly shielded electronics, active or not. Where did you get the idea it only kill active electronics ?

Depending on the power of the EMP there might be working fighter jets though, but probably not. And fighter jets are also reliant on basic and I shielded ground support stuff to work, or rather get in the air. Down to the power wagon that gives it power to start the engines.

too bad that Discovery, History and National Geographic Channels are going downhill with crap shows like these; they even have the same auction shows!

I miss the engineering, documentaries and wildlife shows they used to have. :/

I sort of imagined the smiley at the end there to be one of those redneck smileys with a red had, toothy grin with at least two teeth missing and a straw ;p
