PC games in full screen on a TV

Recommended Posts

Could have stuck this in a few forums but it's here :p

I've got my secondary display as my widescreen TV, Pro Evolution Soccer 3 has arrived early Play.com and I wanna play it on my TV so how do I force it over to the TV? Would I have to set it as my primary monitor each time I wanna play?

Do you have it hooked up yet or asking before you do it? I can't remember but I thought you had a good system so probly a radeon 9800/9700?

It's all hooked up fine, but when running games they default to my TFT, I wanna know how to shift it over to the TV.

With movies and crap I can just drag Media Player Classic over to the TV and make it full screen, I can't do that with games.

Well, I'm not sure what your setup is..hdtv connection from your ati card? If so the ONLY way i found to do this was to force it with powerstrip (Y) I had my girlfriend play Syberia on the TV since its forced in 800x600 and even with highest AA i see some jaggies, but its great on the tv for her. oh also ya powerstrip can set it for specific programs!!!

It's just a regular TV connected to the S-Video port. The only way to get games to run in full screen on it was to set my TV as the default monitor and that sucks because it's a pain in the ass.

I'll give powerstrip a try.

You still got that radeon 9700 dazz, if so you got Hydravision installed ?? Theres a option i think to open in a specific monitor and have it full screen.

Move-to-monitor feature

"Move-to-monitor" feature allows you to select to which monitor you'd like to move the application. With a simple right click on the application title bar, a drop down menu appears with the options to "Move to monitor 1" or Move to monitor 2".

The easiest way to do it, is just to make your tv the primary display, if I remember correctly, you can just set up a hotkey to switch which display is the primary one though.
Powerstrip was crap, I couldn't see anything there, downloading hydra vision now.

Your suggestion seems the best though, thing is my hotkeys part is greyed out :s

nah powerstrip is good, maybe just not what you need, i had to adjust the timings on it because atis drivers didnt switch to hdtv correctly and had my tv going crazy, that switcher didnt work for me but its controlled in part by the ATI2exxx or the ati hot key poller service is that on?

thats why i asked if im missing something? my old matrox had dual output with clone capability. are u saying ATI cannot clone display to TV? it should, right? i mean one button, clone, done. doesnt Hydravision have that option?

Yeah, I played Counterstrike on my big screen tv and its great with surround sound and all. The only thing is that i need sumething other than my lap to put the keyboard on and maybe one of those air mouses may be cool.

Go to Overlay in the Advanced section of your Display Properties. Click on Clone mode options, set Overlay Display Mode to Theater Mode and the rest of the settings to your preference. Works for videos and games even if they are windowed on your PC, it will show up fullscreen on your TV.

That worked perfectly :|

Thing is, my TFT is at 1280 x 1024 and my TV has also matched that res so there's scrolling, is there a way to make it fit the TV without scrolling?

Edit, for the time being I can play at 1024 x 768 so it doesn't scroll, you rock.

Thing is again, PES3 is a real bad port, from the readme "If it plays too fast, turn up the details", "If it plays too slow turn down the details" there's no FPS cap or anything so at 1024 x 768 it's playing like it's on Fast Forward :s

Sounds like you're screwed then :(

The highest resolution than an ATi card (any card I think) outputs to a standard tv is 1024x768, and I think even that is scaled down to 640x480 when it's displayed on the tv. Anything more than 1024x768 will either scroll, or have part of the image cut off.

Yeah, I've settled for playing at 1024 x 768 for the moment, looks all stretched out as well cause it's a widescreen TV :s

Good job Broken Sword 3 has kept me from playing PES3
