Star Trek Into Darkness named 'worst Star Trek film'

Recommended Posts

Considering Galaxy Quest isnt a Star  Trek movie...I would say this list/ranking is garbage.

Galaxy Quest existed simply to make fun of Star Trek, but it has a lot of similar values. Into Darkness existed to blow things up, and has less in common with traditional "Star Trek" films than Galaxy Quest.

What happened in one episode had ripple effects in the next, and the atmosphere of the show did feel real. But it really had weak dialogue, recycled plots, overuse of bad plot devices like time travel, bad aliens like the Xindi, bad character writing, like Archer, who was overemotional about everything and acted like a baby, and Vulcans acting out of character just to make the show more interesting. In the end, I found it much less inspiring and much more forgettable than than the previous series.

Exactly. There was also the casual racism that was constantly directed at T'Pol and the weird decision to make the Vulcans out to be overly dark and emotional. Enterprise wasn't just out of character for a Star Trek show but it was flat out bad. They turned things around somewhat for Season 3 but by then the damage had already been done and it wasn't helped by the clich?d use of a WWII-themed cliffhanger. Enterprise lacked any of the sophistication seen in DS9 and TNG.

I actually thought Insurrection was an excellent movie.

Yeah, I think someone's got a chip on their shoulder looking at that list...

Yeah, it was definitely a decent movie and certainly better than Nemesis. Then again, I don't understand how any Trekkie would allow Galaxy Quest to be included in the list. It was a great film, no doubt, but it has no place on a list ranking Star Trek films.

Hmmm, well if the term "Trekkie" was correctly used to describe the particular people who voted on this list then i understand why it turned out like that.

For me as a fan (personally i think of my self as a Trekker) of Star Trek i liked all the movies and all the shows and never cared which one was better than the other.

here is a snippet from the star trek forums

1. trekkie - obnoxious fans who run around conventions sticking pictures into the professionals' faces, demanding autographs. And IMO trek fans who learn Klingon and wear Starfleet Uniforms to nationally-publicized hearings.

2. trekker - ST fans who are a bit more sedate, but love the show as much as trekkies do. We're just cooler about it. Patrick Stewart mentioned this once on a "game show" he was part of when asked the difference.

3. trekkist - Someone who might watch ST if it happens to be on, enjoys it, but doesn't go all ga-ga over it.

I thought Into Darkness was the worst Star Trek movie I've ever seen. I hated it.

Worse than The Final Frontier?

I can't believe this post made it past 100 replies :p

It's Star Trek, the heart and emotions of any technology lover.

The Galactica had primitive weapons and communications, an entirely different FTL method, and you want to compare it to Starfleet/Voyager tech?

Also if you watch all the confrontations with the Borg, they never had a direct ship-to-ship battle like in THE BEST OF BOTH WORLDS or Q*WHO. The closest was a brief skirmish with a tactical cube in UNIMATRIX ZERO which blew up the Delta Flyer and damaged Voyager, and they were nearly assimilated by a Borg sphere that was destroyed by "One" who was the product of Borg and 29th century Starfleet tech.

If you actually watched the series you didn't pay very much attention to it.

Also TNG established replicator technology was used for many other things than just making food. In fact, replicators were used for everything *but* food on Voyager, that's why they had Neelix as cook.

You're overthinking my replies. I'm just merely trying to say that the storyline was outside the realm of believability. Same with Into Darkness. I know Star Trek is Star Trek, but there has to be some degree of believability. Some degree of intelligence. Not even whimsical technology should be able to explain away plot holes.

There is no such thing as a movie worse than Final Frontier.  Not in the Trek movie universe anyway!

Into Darkness was "okay".  It fits in with the retconned timeline OK and that's really the only context within which you can judge it. You really can't compare it with proper Trek.  It's like the Marvel Studio's superhero movies. They're good, but they don't fit the timelines of the comics; they're an alternate view.

Personally though, I would rather they have their own storylines instead of recycling classic ones.  Also, you just cannot replace Ricardo Montelban as Khan. This new guy just came over as a thug; Ricardo played Khan with style!

It was about Kirk really becoming a leader and captain of the Enterprise and the end of the movie being the beginning of the 5 year mission. Anyone who thinks ST V was better than this is deranged.

load of crap.. it was a very good movie and I wouldn't sit here and lay out a list of those I didn't like as I've loved them all thus far.

I love all Star Trek too. The only one I truly disliked was V. All the rest, I could watch over and over. I thought Into Darkness was great and saw it twice in Imax 3D.

Ok, just watched Into Darkness and I liked it.  If people go into it without thinking about the original story line and open to a new movie/story line and experience...they will enjoy it.  If people constantly compare the new against the old, they will find flaws and something wrong with every little detail of the movie.  The new Star Trek movies are for a new generation or a for people who have an open mind.  If your mind is so closed off, then may as well not even watch any new ST movies that come out.

As a Star Trek fan myself I liked it too. Though I am looking forward to the 3rd film now that they're set off to explore.

The only thing I really don't like about the new Trek is that goddam awful engine room of their's. JJ Abrams is a twonk.  A fricking brewery? Really? That's the best you can do? Moron.

A lot bothers me about this film and I never could put my finger on it until I watched it again over the weekend. It just takes itself way too seriously. Let me say that again.....it takes itself way too serious. TOS and TNG had their serious moments but they had fun with the material and had lots of funny moments (some even unintentional). This movie is all serious and even the squabbling between Spock and Bones is all serious. They just need to loosen up and have more fun. And lose the lens flairs, of course. :D

You can disagree all you want, but Enterprise had EXCELLENT storytelling. It was convincing. It was real. What happened in one episode, had ripple effects in the next, and the next, etc. There was no magic reset button that was pressed week after week.

No reset button? Wasn't enterprise the one with more time travel crap than all other scifi in history put together? I mean I thought it was among the better treks, at least after the first season, but damn, no reset button...
