In december my computer was infected with Nimda, in that moment I was using Pc-cillin, then I use Mcaffee, something was wrong with my computer, it was slow and full of errors. Finally I installed norton 2002 and wow, the only antivirus that found the virus on my computer was norton antivirus and the only antivirus who delete it was norton antivirus...

I tried PC-cillin a few years back, and I had a virus on my comp, It wasnt til i installed another Anti Virus prog that i found the virus.

To add insult to injury, the virus itself was within PC-cillin!!!!!

Norton In my opinion is good, but way too big.

I just want something that runs without needing half my system resources to run!!! :D

I suggest 512 MB or more since XP itself requires no less than 256 MB to work right and NAV 2002 about 64 to work right

hmm, i only have 128 - XP pro and latest NAV. everything works fine :D

[well - a little slow at times :cheeky: ]

'mcafee sucks...really....i mean this antivirus is damn bad man, the only good antivirus from mcafee is the corporate edition of virusscan (read the tests if u want) but this is not cheap at all

'

Exactly. McAfee AIM at the corporate market, and their AV is dam good. NAVs corporate just does not compaire.

NAV is designed to be used by monkeys, idiots, aol users.

Its simple, it comes setup to a useable level.

Mcafee takes a bit more tweaking, but its scanning engine is FAR more functional.

Winston,

I believe all of ur problems are the fault of AMD with their athcrap XP. I have a P4 2 GHz (see sig) and i have absolutely no probs with nav. I have to say the fault lies with AMD because every athcrap system i put norton on it runs like **** (because AMD is a very unstable cpu b/c of heat)

Thats my 2 cents :)

Sorry Chris but NAV runs like **** on more than half the systems I have built. It has nothing to do with AMD, the software is just very badly written. AMD cpus are not unstable, you obviously have never used one :)

NAV was great at about version 4, it was small, fast & unobtrusive.... It would fit on 3 floppies back then. WTF wants an anti-virus program that uses 100+Mb & around 30Mb RAM??

NAV can go jump

Well i just said that because i had bad experiences with NAV on my friend's AMD comp while on my comp it runs perfectly smooth. The AMD remark was just merely my opinion and nothing more. Personally i like the P4 because its just more stable in my experience.

Just my 2 cents :D

Just about 2 cents is what is worth as well. I use Norton as do my friends, all have AMD and no one has problems...

About two weeks after windows xp was released (10-25-2001) I went to best buy to buy a sony vaio and got it home. With all the pcs I've bought in the past the first thing I would do is install AV software before I hook up my internet connection. So I got the sony vaio home and booted it up and the first thing and I mean the first thing I did was install NAV 2002 which I bought at the same time as the computer. NAV 2002 finished installing and rebooted and performed a system scan. The last thing I expected was to have NAV detect a virus coming from pccillin which came preinstalled on my computer. I didn't even plug in my cable modem until NAV deleted the virus and performed another HDD scan. I called sony *hit support and informed them of the problem and I was shocked by what the women rep told me to do if I wanted too. She told me if I wanted too I could return the computer to sony not best buy at my expense and they would give me credit in the amount of half of what the computer cost at retail if I emailed them my receipt from best buy and they verified the accuracy of the purchase. The amount I was given credit for was 550.00 toward another purchase from sony. So I went ahead and bought a 2000.00 sony vaio for 1450.00. So I waited for about a week for it to come and it came and I hooked it up and guess what...the same problem with that stupid pccilin. So as the type of person I am I fugured I'd call tech support again and have them troubleshoot it just to see what else they'll do for me. So I figured right the rep gave me the same option as before...half of the computer I purchased or 1000.00 off another computer...over a virus...they say this is there policy for manufacturing software defects. So I paid the cost to have it shipped back and purchased a 3000.00 sony vaio for 2000.00 with a free 3 year on-site warranty. The third pc came to my door and had an updated version of pccilin with no virus detected...shucks. Well enough said. The only thing I'll say is if you buy a computer and there's a manufacturing software/hardware defect no matter how little you think it may be you might have purchased a computer from a company who has the craziest policies on stuff you would never dream they would have as I found out for my self.

Do you guys saying NAV Corporate is *good* actually work with AV?.... or is this an uneducated opinion.

I am designing our new AV system, 3000+ workstations, loads of servers, ePO as central management, and I can quite confidently tell u NAV av doesnt compaire.

Look at the number of publicised false-positives NAV has had recentely, its scan engine is pants, and the sig's are badly written.

As far as centralised managment goes, it just doesnt compaire to ePO.
