Guest Ryan
I hate to say XBOX would be my choice because I already own a PS2. Just what I was going to say. With a modded XBOX, anything is possible. (Y)
BroChaos Veteran Posted November 22, 2003 Veteran Share Posted November 22, 2003 So, nobody knows any good XBOX modders in my region? http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?act=SF&f=29 did you look there? their forum is too busy right now, but i think that's the right link. i don't know where beford is, or what it is near either... SpicyBeef
The problem with mods is that it ain't safe and voids the warranty. With safe, I mean it's illegal. Or is it?
Bizkit
Just a question, how good is your computer? I would think that if you got a tv card, you could just have your computer like what you are wanting. Now maybe I am way off base, but I was just wondering. +Dick Montage Subscriber² Posted November 22, 2003 Author Subscriber² Share Posted November 22, 2003 My PC is VERY good, and I have previously used (and built) one for this purpose. But it's just not as convenient as XBOX.
SpicyBeef
I have read somewhere that you could connect XBOX controllers to your pc. Even PS2 ones.
+Dick Montage Subscriber² Posted November 24, 2003 Author Subscriber² Share Posted November 24, 2003 XBOX controllers work fine on PCs, as they are simply usb with a different form factor. There are tonnes of tutorials on this, but basically it's just a cut n splice job. The internal wirings match fine. Worthy of note that with the correct driver you can also use the memory card slot on PC as a removable drive. Neat eh? Ignore the extra wire.
+Dick Montage Subscriber² Posted November 24, 2003 Author Subscriber² Share Posted November 24, 2003 (edited) The extra wire is totally redundant for PC use. No idea what it does, but will go have a look. Memory card works fine without it. EDIT: Right here is what I have found. Some sites claim it is so that the console can detect the type of controller, however others seem to think it is another power cable. I have seen a mod that makes use of the yellow cable to reset/turn off the console. But either way, it is not used on the PC. Also, using a memory card on the pc through the controller allows you to download cheats, save games etc to your xbox ;) Edited November 24, 2003 by njlouch
Sedriss
id go with ps2 all the way. yea you could mod the xbox, but there goes your warranty. and the average buyer doesnt look at buying a console for modding. why buy xbox and dump more money into buying mod parts for it? it should be fine and dandy out of the box. that just tells me that it has to be modded to be better than ps2. +Dick Montage Subscriber² Posted November 24, 2003 Author Subscriber² Share Posted November 24, 2003 Sedriss: I couldn't disagree more. Like for like Xbox and PS2 are now really just a preference call. However, if you look at what I actually want to do (n my original post) you should see that a modded xbox is perfect. It's not like anyone has to pay money to make an xbox better than a ps2, I am just chosing to.
SpicyBeef
Yeah. Its like car mods. Buying a Honda and spending thousands of dollars modifying it. Making it go faster. Making it look good. Why not buy a real sports/race car?
+Dick Montage Subscriber² Posted November 24, 2003 Author Subscriber² Share Posted November 24, 2003 So you are seriously comparing the PS2 to a race car and XBOX to a honda? That is a truly unimformed opinion. Seeing as with cars, it's whats under the hood that counts, the XBOX is arguably more powerful than the PS2. Also, modifying cars is not done to make it "like a race car" nor to find the cheapest way to do it. It's a passion and the enjoyment of doing the work. Same as me with the XBOX. But this is a moot point, as the decision has been made.
SpicyBeef
Err ok. It's only my opinion. And yes, a decision has been made.

+Dick Montage Subscriber² Posted November 24, 2003 Author Subscriber² Share Posted November 24, 2003 Kick_XP: Yeah convertors are available, however, I *personally* modded just the one quick-release connector, so any joypad can be used on both pc and xbox with no potential loss. It's useful to do once, so you can learn. As for connectors, Lik-Sang are the dons!
