grid001
Jeez I so want to play this game. I didnt care about getting a new video card, but when I saw this game, I was blown away. I'm a die-hard import car fan, and have been looking for the perfect real-life scenario duplicator, hence NFS:U. Primarily, I've got a DVD Burner on my wish list (which I will be purchasing in 2 weeks) as well.....aaargh, and now I want a video card :argh:
ANova
Get a 9600 Pro. ATI's drivers are fantastic now, just as good if not more so then nvidia's. Things change, get over it. If you have a console like the xbox or ps2 then just get it for one of those.
_XtaC_
i'm running it on an athlon xp 1800 with 1gb 266ddr and a radeon 9700pro. works great, full graphics at 1024x768 no slowdowns, choppiness...nothing...runs like a dream... go for the radeon 9600...you won't be disappointed...ati has changed since the rage chipset was out...much better driver support now... grid001
"XtAC," I'll take your word for it. Mostly because it seems allot of users are using ATI cards rather than nVIDIA cards. I really hope ATI's driver support remains responsive in the long run. I'm starting to look at the "ASUS Radeon 9600 XT/VTD," its going for $287 (CAD). Its sort of in my price range, and is the XT class well. If any of you have further recommendations in either the nvidia or ATI class please let me know. Thanks again. Ciao. :)

ANova
You can actually get the 9800 non pro for about the same price, and it's quite a bit faster.
southblarck
yea but when it comes down to it the 9600 pro is better cuz all the drivers and the 9800 non pro ant that grate
yanman
have they fixed the video card issues? because in the demo.. there were some real graphic issues with my card although it is a supported chipset.... i am running a P4 2.4ghz 512 DDR and a Radeon 9700 with Catalyst 3.9... and there are heaps of problems with graphics... here's an example screenshot from Silence... yanman
actually... i found a fix for it... i found a hotfix from ATi, although it's mainly for Call Of Duty... it fixed up NFS Underground as well.. get it here: http://www.ati.com/support/infobase/4291.html
DigitalN.
yea but when it comes down to it the 9600 pro is better cuz all the drivers and the 9800 non pro ant that grate hells no. HL2 will run 2 times better than a 9600 with friggin VAPOCILL COOLING STRAPPED ON!!! and then it still gets its tooshie wooped! get a 9800 n/p, then OC it to Pro speeds you will not be dissipointed

isus
hells no. HL2 will run 2 times better than a 9600 with friggin VAPOCILL COOLING STRAPPED ON!!! and then it still gets its tooshie wooped! get a 9800 n/p, then OC it to Pro speeds you will not be dissipointed considering the fact that the 9600 and 9800 cores are both rv300's, i find it hard to believe that a 9800 non pro could beat a 9600 pro with a good overclock and vapochill. source? ANova
yea but when it comes down to it the 9600 pro is better cuz all the drivers and the 9800 non pro ant that grate  The 9600 uses the same drivers as the 9800. considering the fact that the 9600 and 9800 cores are both rv300's, i find it hard to believe that a 9800 non pro could beat a 9600 pro with a good overclock and vapochill. You need to read up on benchmarks a little more. The 9600 series uses the RV350, the 9500/9700/9800's all use the R300; they are both very different chips. The 9800 is much faster. The 9600 was designed for the low end mainstream market, it can hardly compare to a 9800 Pro. Edited November 22, 2003 by ANova
