Scorbing
Well it seems they have finally seen the light and realized that we are not stupid and that once you make a promise, you should never break it. The case being, TGT Soft LLC promised that they would never charge for Style XP and we all now that was a lie, so now after finally realizing that a hacked uxtheme.dll file is already available on the web, they decided to post one of their own on their web site! Go see for yourself.

JFig24
I installed Beta 3 of Style XP and then unistalled it but I was still able to use my themes. I was about to installed the .ull released by TGT but when I ran the .exe it told me that the DLL was already patched. So, i'm just going to leave it how it is since I technically don't have Style XP installed anymore, I only have the hacked .dll. I think that anything before Beta 3 was before TGT put a time limit on it. So, when you unistall BETA 3, it keeps the hacked .ull behind. If anyone wants BETA 3, let me know and I will send it along. andy_rose
well, i just tried it, but i cant get it to work. in the read me file they say i have to go in the dllcache folder..but i dont have a folder like that.and yes, i have changed it to show hidden files and folders.did a search(including hidden files), but nothing. and when i rename the uxtheme.dll it gets replaced by a new one, so i cant rename the uxtheme.pat file cuz there already is a file called that. maybe i'm just tired and stupid right now, but i give up. i'm just gonna go for the beta 3. i know i have it somewhere..anyway, do tell if anybody else get it to work. Jaehend
well TGT has it half right...unless your WFP is completely disabled the only way to "rename" the new UxTheme.dll file that they create for you in C:WindowsSystem32 is to reboot and start Windows under safe mode...otherwise your rewrite of the Uxtheme file will be thwarted by Windows upon you next reboot...as far as their mention of the dllcache folder, that is a backup folder for WFP...sometimes it's their, sometimes it isn't...either way, it is where Windows stores their backups so that they can replace/rewrite any system file that gets changed with the original without requiring you to have the cd in the drive...one other thing...when you change your settings to "show hidden files" you also need to click the setting for "hide protected operating system files" or you won't see the dll cache folder... Dazzla Veteran Posted January 22, 2002 Veteran Share Posted January 22, 2002 Just go to run and type: c:windowssystem32dllcache replacing C: and windows with whatever you have. Delete it from there and then replace.
Boeing 787
Not to defend TGT but this was there plan all along. Just like windowsblinds they would offer a free version and a pay version. The reason they didn't offer a basic patch was because they wanted people to test the main program I going to assume.
drewster2100
as how they make it and expect an average user to figure this out? they definitly could have just put out a beta 1, but they would rather you have a hard time, forcing you to download/buy(or crack)the full version. whack
This is what they said they would do all along and I hate to say I TOLD YOU SO. but I have repeatedly posted that they announced along time ago that they would do this close to release time for StyleXP. That till then the betas were free. And they never said StyleXP would always be free they said the patch would always be free here's the patch. But then again I suppose this post will be ignored like all the others I posted letting you guys know this was there plan oh well
fr33k
1. put %systemroot%system32dllcache in the run box hit enter 2. delete the uxtheme.dll from the dllcache 3. run the uxthemepatcher.exe in the system32 folder 4. rename the original uxtheme.dll to what ever you want like sh*t 5. rename the new UXTHEME.PAT to uxtheme.dll 6. reboot 7. enjoy the themes created by all the talented themers :)
fr33k
to test the uxthemepatcher.exe I ran sfc /scannow in the cmd prompt to replace the original uxtheme.dll since there wasn't one in the dllcache. after the sfc was done i rebooted to verify that the hacked dll had been replaced then ran the uxthemepatcher. It worked fine it was easy as pie. just make sure there isn't a backup in the dllcache or you will spend the next 24 hours renameing the uxtheme.dll over and over

If you want you can delete the dllcache useing sfc /purgecache in the cmd prompt which will give you an extra gig or so of hard drive, and when you see the warnings just say yes you want to use the hacked one and cancel the cd thingy
