We'll say this, BlackBerry looks to be considering everything when it comes to pulling in revenue from its messaging service. False alarms aside, the company already let slip that BlackBerry Messenger is on its way to iOS and Android some time this season, and now according to The Wall Street Journal's usual gang of anonymous sources "familiar with the matter," the Canadian company is thinking of spinning off the service as a more independent subsidiary carrying the straight-forward name, BBM Inc. ahead of a potential sale. A desktop version of the app may be on the docket as well, according to the article -- BlackBerry, naturally, only reconfirmed its Android and iOS plans, refusing to comment on anything else.

Probably not. The only thing that will save them is people giving these new phones a chance. Because they seriously are awesome--I didn't expect to love this Z10 the way I do--but any time I bring up giving it a try when they are phone shopping they just laugh. It sucks.. they really put a lot into this new product and it shows, but it seems to be too late. Pity as it's the best virtual keyboard I've ever used, among other things.

I seriously considered getting a Z10 when I upgraded in March but I just couldn't see leaving the Android ecosystem. Is the keyboard that good? I played with it for a bit in the stores but it's not like taking one home with you.

I think it is. The predictive text is easy to use without interfering with your typing when you don't want to use it, and it learns your patterns really well. I dreaded typing long emails on a non-hardware keyboard, but now I am really fast with it :D  the separate 'secure work area' is great, means you can just lock down that part of it and the rest of the phone is as open as you like. The fact that it runs Android apps in addition to its own native ones is just the icing on the cake.

I guess it depends on what you want out of a phone, but... A year ago I said that when I quit this job and have to get my own phone I'd get the latest Samsung Galaxy phone, but now that I've had this one for a while, I think I'll buy this off them instead. :D I love Android (my tablet runs it), but I like how fast this phone is and how well it multitasks. And the actual call quality is much better than the old BB phones as well. (Y)
