Brad Pitt
hahhaha, Investing in large cap stocks is not going to give you the big return you're looking for, If you want a good stock, neowin would probably be the LAST place to ask people, You will certainly get a lot of opinions (Like Mine) That have no worth, Often even wall street is propagated with unfounded rumors of "Which stock is good"... But since we ARE on neowin, it would be worth it to say, It might be in your best intrest to try invensting into ATI, Nvidia, Maxtor (Actually I would advise against Maxtor since they are restructuring and aren't paying out dividends), Emc, etc etc... I personally (Take it with a grain of salt) would recommend Athlon (AMD), Which I've already invested in. I came in too early so I "Lost Money". Which technically isn't true because I purchased at $20 adn now it's like $17. Anyways, it's always wise to invest in a produce YOU think will take off, sicne you are the consumer, you know whats going to fly in the market and whats not
sciguy007
go to CNBCs investing site and check their earnings calendar. find a stock that is going to release its earnings soon that you think will do well (a blue chip is usually a good bet). if you pick right, and the earnings come in above expectations, the stock will usually make a quick jump that day. ImOnTheGoodFoot
XM Radio (XMSR) and Netflix (NFLX) have both gone up several hundred percent this year. Williams Communications (WMB) has gone up about 1000% this year. Might look into those 3, especially XM. Petsmart is a good one too.

poind
Yep, check earnings to be soon released, especially where analysts overall think things will meet or beat expectations. Also take a lot of practical stuff into account where companies are likely to do well this holiday season given general economic environment. Can be really hard to predict short-term, a bit easier to predict long. I'd generally be expecting things like Dell, Southwest, Amazon, and Wal-Mart to do "better" in the short-term right now, but what happens to their actual stock price is also going to be tied into when earnings are released and so-on. Your time frame may be even shorter than what one normally needs to look at. In the meantime, maybe check a bunch of relatively recent stock graphs at finance.yahoo.com and see if they're generally trending upward. Think of general issues -- airline stocks, some tech stocks.... Depending on how soon this ends, what do you think will do well over the next couple months? Are more people going to be travelling locally? What are people buying for the holidays? I think Southwest Airlines is probably the one I'd be most paying attention to. Lots of local, affordable travel, good rep over the long-term. Regardless of what people are buying, they're probably traveling locally more these days. Of course, such expectations may have already been built-in to current pricing, whereby if they don't meet analyst expectations when they release earnings, their stock will actually fall a bit even if they've done "better". Hmmm. Especially with other supermarkets on extended strike and people perhaps focusing on decent home meals for quality of life in economic downturn, in the short-term, look at Whole Foods (WFMI). [Addendum: You might have a hard time find things going up these days, especially in very short-term. A good deal can be just minimizing losses. Might also look at a couple things like Pfizer and Chiron?] Edited November 21, 2003 by poind

poind
does any one know of any stocks that are expected to go up with in the next few days? Just re-thought a bit a day later. If you're dealing with this tight a timeline, good luck, barring things with earnings reports perhaps coming out immediately, whereby stock prices can suddenly shift thereafter. Answering this well would make one a darn good day-trader, and good stock picking tends to be longer-term / bigger picture. Too many things can fluctuate in the short term unpredictably, like if a large investor just decides one day to unload / buy a lot of a particular stock all at once. ThunderThor
I did that back in 8th grade and was in 2nd place on our middle school team, I pretty sure StevoFC got 1st place out of the whole team. Anyway I invested in General Electric because they were getting ready to do a split at the time, so thats why I chose that. I would say maybe just google around to see whats the top performers right now. This is what I found: Metropolitan Mortgage & Sec. Plains Resources Inc. Stillwater Mining Nordstrom KCS Energy Integrity Media Inc Applied Molecular Evolution Ditech Comm Corp Pennichuck Corp Denison Intl Plc Autodesk Inc Dillards Inc. Delta Air Lines AT&T Corp.
