.NET support on Xbox ONE most requested feature ever

Recommended Posts

Having just passed the cap of 7000 votes in only a few weeks, allowing .NET games on Xbox ONE is now the hottest and most-requested feature of all time on the Visual Studio UserVoice forum.

The idea was submitted by Alexandre "xoofx" Mutel, creator of SharpDX, a lightweight and portable .NET wrapper around DirectX. Not only has Microsoft not said a word regarding .NET support on its next-generation console, but also killed its Xbox 360 game development kit XNA earlier this year. While the Unity partnership is good news for indie game creators, Unity is only a single, commercial, ready-made engine; .NET support would enable all existing .NET engines to run on Xbox ONE i.e. MonoGame, Delta Engine, Axiom3d, etc.

Here's hoping that Microsoft will listen to its community. If you're a developer (and even if you're not :)), log on to the site and make those 10 votes count! We don't just want a half-assed .NET like on Xbox 360, we want a real desktop-class .NET with P/Invoke, generational tracing GC, and high performance floating point code. The more votes the more Microsoft realizes how important this issue is for developers.
