'Stargate' coming back to life with film trilogy reboot

very happy about this but it all depends on who they are going to have play Daniel (even if they don't do it around SG-1 I hope they keep his character around due to his importance)

Regarding SGU, it was always planned for 2 seasons only by the people who proposed it.

SGU was a great series if you considered its implications for the rest of the SG universe, but they did spend too much time on personal trials and not enough on blowing ###### up >.>

Either way, I liked it and I've watched SG-1 and SG:A to death :D

Wow, this is unexpected.  I am always hesitant on reboots.  The Star Trek reboots weren't too great...ok but not great.  What I would like to see is these movies take place when the alliance of 4 great races were out there and doing things.  That would be fun.  At any rate, I hope they turn out alright.

Not Roland Emmerich please.

I'll give it a shot... but I don't think he's the right person. Also, SG-1 is not canon? How could he say that? SG-1 was one of the best things that happened on my tv...

Also - anyone who didn't like SGU didn't watch S2.

Not a fan of him disowning everything that came after the movie, but as long as its good then I'm ok with it. A new retelling doesn't lessen my love for the rest of the stuff I've already seen.

Blanket statements ftl.

I own season 1 and 2.  It sucked, period.  The drama between the characters ruined it.

They devoted way too much time to character development for characters that no one cared about.

The main plotline became secondary to character drama. The entire non-character-drama plotline of the first season would have been a two parter on SGA or SG1.

The premise was great, and the second half of the second season was great. It would have been good. They took far too long to get it there, and ****ed over the franchise.

Right.  It felt like one big soap opera.

Stargate Universe was too much drama and nothing happening. They were just bitchin' about each other.

Movie should be good if there is a right balance of drama and comedy. Comedy is what truly lightens up the mood in an otherwise dark universe.

I would be ok with a remake to make the movie line up better with the series, but a reboot? essentially erasing ~10 years of already established lore? it better blow me away...

That was the point of SGU though, they didn't want a clone of SG1 or SGA. Season 1 was a borefest for me but Season 2 was better, it was bound to rub fans the wrong way (the producers even said as much when it first was announced) but I enjoyed it for what it was and it had potential. Shame it never reached it.

I dont know if this is a good thing or a bad thing or what.
I mean, 10 years of SG1 is something to be proud of, and Atlantis was just as awesome as SG1. Both shows had the movie to launch from, and if you all remember, SG1_S01E01 was basically a shot for shot remake of the movie.
So to throw it all away like that, i dunno, seems silly.
Then again, Independence Day was just a awesome movie from start to finish, IF and I mean IF he can pull it off, with constant input from the creators, then a reboot might work. Im just worried a reboot of the stargate universe would turn out crap, like every other reboot done so far :/

While I'm a huge fan of Stargate the last thing I want is Roland Emmerich getting his hands back on the franchise. He has shown complete disdain for the post-film canon and his subsequent films have been appallingly bad. Stargate now has hundreds of hours of lore thanks to SG-1, Atlantis and Universe, which eclipses that of the original film (which was great but has since lost relevance).

Roland Emmerich has been talking about this for years so I really hope this is just more talk, as I think he would be terrible for the franchise.

It's strange i think the complete opposite. I'm a huge fan of sci fi but there's one thing i'll never understand and it's the cult status of ID. What people actually found so awesome in ID? I think i'll never see the light. To me it remains one of the biggest wasted opportunity of all time along with Pearl Harbor. ID could have been such a great movie but was barely good.

I remember seeing the preview in a theater before watching another movie with my friends. It looked so awesome. I was 19 when i watched it so i was right in the target audience of the movie i should have loved it as a fan of sci fi and fantasy. But strangely it's still to this day in my top 10 most disappointing movies of all time.

Most Emmerich's movies can be summarized this way. Interesting idea badly executed. He should stop directing and focus on producing movies.

The problem with ID, is that it's basically another bad attempt at making The War of the Worlds.

One of these days, I'm hopeful someone makes it that has actually read the fricking book!

I am not sure about this.  There are too many damn reboots these days.  I have already seen what happens (over 10 years worth with SG1) so I do not want to see a reboot where I already know what happens.  This annoys me with every reboot.  Star Trek was different because the timeline was changed.  Stargate already pretty much did that with Continuum.

I like all the Stargate shows more than any other sci-fi show.  But I do not know how I feel about a reboot.  Just put that money towards a new and better show than SGU was.  SGU was okay, but it could have been better.

While I will concede that season 2 was better, there was still too much drama between characters to focus on the plot.

I couldn't stand it.  Apparently I wasn't alone, as it was cancelled pretty quickly.

the first season was awful but then the second season was excellent and then they cancelled it, go figure

don't like how Emmerich doesn't consider SG-1 cannon, the movie was only alright and all of us SG-1 fans may not like the way he goes with the new film

Battlestar was a great reboot. But Roland and Dean with Stargate have me worried since they have some weird views on things.

Completely disagree with Battlestar being a great reboot. Ron Moores version of the show was far more flawed then the original and way more fly by the seat of his pants planning. Season three was total garbage and I still think it had some of the all time worst Scifi tv shows ever.

To each their own though, if you liked it thats cool. I found the whole series a major disappointment though blood and chrome would have been excellent as a series.

Wow. To each their own indeed! :s

I don't think I've heard that from anyone before. Generally people were big fans of the reboot, myself included. I was never sure about the premise for Blood and Chrome, and after watching some of Caprica I didn't have high hopes for B&C. But like you said, to each their own.

Back to Stargate, it could be interesting but I'm inclined to agree with others that say that Emmerich should probably pass the idea to someone that would do a better job. I don't necessarily have an issue with Emmerich, but rebooting something like Stargate might require the insight of someone else to grab the audience's attention.
