We've been getting them here in Scotland on and off for the last few weeks, news says its something to do with solar flares and the earths magnetic fields.

Tried to take a photo with my digital camera but it just came out black

yea it does come back black since ur in scotland its real faint to a cameras eye, to the naked eye it looks wonderful :D take ur pictures of them if u still have them and put them in photoshop and make it do auto brightness and contrast that should lighten it the hell up so u can make out color :), it was for me too in indiana, usa, but my camera has this light sensitive setting where if its black in a room it will brighten the hell outa the picture, i wish i still had this picture i took when we was having a tornado and bad lightning i snapped a pic outa the blue from my porch and it cought a lightning flash and it lite up the sky and u could see a tornado cloud forming it was great i cant believe i lost that pic :(

Well, my hometown is Bod?, Norway (picture) (Norway is extremely enlarged of course;))).

Aurora Borealis is something we see every night, and it's beautiful!!

Makes you realize there's something greater that you in the universe...
