The planned Mortal Kombat reboot movie will exist in a separate continuity from the Legacy television series.

Director/choreographer Kevin Tancharoen has offered an update on the project.

"We're still pushing through on that," he told Coming Soon. "The script is in a good place, we're just kind of figuring out the budget and locations and that whole process is where we're at."

In regards to its connection to Mortal Kombat: Legacy, he said: "I think everyone's intention is to start fresh because we want Legacy to live on its own possibly for multiple seasons, and when it comes to Mortal Kombat, it's been around for 20 plus years.

"We're going to take the mythology and add another layer on it so it can live on for another 20 years, or more! I think this is a unique opportunity to set that ground work."

Tancharoen pitched the film reboot which eventually became Mortal Kombat: Legacy, and has also been tapped for the movie.

I remember Brian Thompson being the only redeemable actor in MK Annihilation.

If Reptile is in this movie, I hope they keep his human disguise, I wouldn't want them to CGI a lizard. I wasn't really fond of the character design in MK9.
