HoagieKat
Which Linux distro is the best in your humble opinions? I want a good distro that includes or has good support for: 1. NAT Firewall/Router 2. Apache Webserver 3. PHP 4. Perl 5. MySQL A splendid GUI would be nice, but not essential as it will only be used occasionally as an internet workstation. zivan56
Definately Mandrake 8.1 (when doing advanced install ) has all that, just select the packages when it ask you what you want it install. It uses apache advanced extranet server which has built in ssl support out of the box.
Vlad
Try doing some research, different distributions have different strengths and weaknesses. And since almost every single one I can think of can do everything you listed, you don't need to be very choosy. Debian would be a good choice if you want a system that's very "stripped down" and only has what you want installed, not a bunch of extra crap like mandrake/redhat/suse. coutcin
I'd go with Mandrake 8.1 or Slackware 8.x (I think there's an 8.1 out, but I'm not sure). Mandrake has an "easier" install (aka Win-like), and has a treelist for all the packages. Slackware is less automatic, has an easy RedHat-like interface for installing, and is a better experience as you have to set many things up manually. I run Mdk 8.1 on here since it supports the hardware on here, and Slack 8.0 on the laptop (no distro has supported sound on there, both get my PCMCIA). And, yes, Debian is nice, but it doesn't have PCMCIA, or at least I couldn't find it when I installed.
MulletRobZ
Wait for Mandrake 8.2! It's coming out soon! :) As a matter of fact, I heard it's in beta!
coutcin
Mandrake is always in beta...it's called Cooker. I have yet to download it, but it's available from FTP.
