Is trouble brewing at Pixar?

The beloved animation giant revealed that their next film,  'The Good Dinosaur' has been delayed by 18 months and will now be released on 25 November 2015.

In turn this has pushed 'Finding Dory' back to 2016 and left the animation studio without a film out next year.

'The Good Dinosaur' lost its director last month, with insiders telling The Hollywood Reporter that the project was never going to make its scheduled release date of 30 May 2014 after Bob Peterson was shown the door.

A replacement has not yet been hired.

Angelina Jolie's 'Maleficent' will take the May release date left open by the Pixar project about a dinosaur befriending a small boy.

In a statement, Pixar said: "We continue to believe at Pixar, 'quality is the best business plan,' and we live by that. It is because of this we have decided to move the release date of 'The Good Dinosaur'...to ensure we make the best film possible."

Pixar last went a year without releasing a film in 2005, between the releases of 'The Incredibles' and 'Cars'.

In the eight years since, the studio has released a film each summer without fail.

They will make up for it in 2015, however, with the release of two movies.

Their next is now 'Inside Out' - a tale told from the perspective of the emotions inside the mind of a young girl.

The production issues for 'Good Dinosaur' are nothing new for Pixar. The studio has replaced directors mid-way through on some of their most successful projects, including 'Brave' and 'Ratatouille'.

However, it's been suggested that the studio has lost some of its creative mojo in recent years, with its last two films, 'Cars 2' and 'Monster's University', coolly received by critics.

The delay of 'Good Dinosaur' means 2015 is now a critical year for Pixar, both financially and creatively.
