I doubt built in folder protection will come with FAT32, as it is meant for the NTFS, (NT File System). More for networks, giving administrators more control of the computer. 1) Wetware interface. Terabyte/sec connection hardwired into back of users head. seeing as that is probably going to be in R&D for awhile, then I'd be happy with; ahaha yeah. i wanna be able to plug a cord into my head, and download a book, and know it. or download a tutorial on self defense, then be able to kick the **** outta someone :)
nexionly
Windows needs to have better error info, when something happens it pops up and says "look dude, this is whats goin on and this is what you do to fix it." ya know something easy and simple. or just get a an imac (those things are sweet) and have windows just for games. games and games only, then when it works you can just leave it alone and not bother with updating it or anything. thats my plan hmm I just need money. Phil Gates
i want it to look exactly like windows 2000 by default and you can make your own design of a desktop and use it or something. the professional edition's install should look more professional and the basic edition should be a cutesy and crap. Look at OSX, there menu is more simple than Windows XP yet it still looks way better. There icons still looks terrible. The wallpaper doesn't match the theme at all. The theme is dark, it should be light like OSX. The IE is terrible! I hate that curving angle thingy and the buttons look ugly if its not straight. The curving agle will also block the website. The icons are the same ones found in XP. The wallpaper can obviously be changed (Microsoft would have to be on something pretty strong to not to allow ppl to change their wallpapers). The default desktop is just white actually, its very professional looking. I added the background because I don't really like just colors as backgrounds, I need an actual image. :) The theme *is* dark, but there could also always be more colors included (which I'm guessing is probably going to happen). And it's not OSX, so why does it need to look like it? It's Windows, not Mac. You want Mac, go get a Mac. The buttons in IE can be placed *anywhere*, you can put them in a straight line if you want. And the curving angle doesn't block the websites, it's drawn above them and is filled in with the background color of the page. (so it looks a bit off if you go to a page with images as a background). It doesn't block the websites at all.

So the way you and y_notm are talking, this thing is real, but it's not Blackcomb. Is it Longhorn, a UI study, or a fake. My guess is that it is a fake. LiGhTfast
anything can be started via voice command, cant be that hard to do... and move to a more lcars style like on star trek voyager.. would be wicked with a touch screen moniter :) and maybe have dual touch screen moniters appearing ie one moniter down stairs and other in the computer room allowing you to control mp3s etc :) oh and have mics in a few rooms that listen out for key command ie you say computer switch on and it will boot and then you can say "find mp3 foo-fighters - everlong and play volume 30%" /me can only dream thinking about that we have the technology to that now so why isnt it put to use like that? wtmcgee
what are you talking about? not only did MS' original windows look copy apple years and years ago, luna came after OS X. i'm not suggesting that MS desgined luna to compete with the aqua look (maybe they did... who knows or cares) but it certanily didnt happen the other way around. the timetable doesn't match up. OS X was out before the luna thing even happened. Roger H. Veteran Posted January 27, 2002 Veteran Share Posted January 27, 2002 ok.. 2 things (more) Beware.. lots of steam coming off! [steam] 1: Concerning Windows Meida Player - why the hell when i load it all my MP3s aren't sorted by Artist (well it works sometimes after i format!!!) but instead just loads them in some order i'm not even aware of! Mobb Deep comes before Ja Rule? GRRRR i always gotta go to the library and sort them by artists!!! b: Does it cost that much to allow windows media player (when playing dvds) to change the brightness settings or to allow a bookmark so you don't have to start the whole chapter over!! 2: Explorer - it's like there are 2 settings for each folder. For instance.. if i click My Documents and set it up the way i want.. if i browse to d:My Documents (my choice) then it's totally different from how just going directly to my documents is! Setting up a my music folder is a PAIN in this ass!! And Goign to folder options and choose that setting to set all folders like the current one isn't exactly what i'd want since i have different folders set up for differnt views... My Videos for instance is set up as thumbnails (preview factor) and then My Music is set up with the artist pictures (thumbnails) then album picture (thumnails for quicker finds) then the MP3 files set up as Tiles for the ID3 factor! to set all that back up would be hell so i don't even wanna think about that! b: Would it be difficult for MS to allow sorting by 2 different factors... In my case (My Music) i would like to sort by type (MP3, WAV, WMA and JPEG (for the album cover - folder.jpg) and name at the sametime! Sometimes i choose type and then the stuff get all mixed up and i can't sort it alphabetically unless i do it manually or change it back to sort by name.. just a few of the things that **** ME OFF!!! :) [/steam]

Tesseract
I think Blackcomb will perform and look as the best OS of all time by not only MS, but ANYONE. However, with the ".NET technology" that will go into Blackcomb, it will probably have many strings attatched.

What you *can* do is donate to pay a programmer to work on Linux (just simple things like keeping them in coke and Penguin mints, nothing fancy) for a period of time, like a year. It's been done sucessfully for Perl.

Phil, m8, get some coffee and a valium dear. As much as I'm going to hate having to break your heart the reason why Bill Gates "donated" 150 mil to Apple in the first place is because Apple was going to sue the pants off Microsoft for stealing ideas from OSX. The entire agreement was that Bill would give the money and in return he would get non voting stock that he couldn't sell for 3 years, Apple would make IE the standard browser on their computers, and MS would develop Office on the Mac for either 5 or 8 years I can't remember which. As much as you would love to see Apple disappear I don't think it's going to happen anytime soon, sure their market share might not rise much but considering the fact that theres over 22 mil OSX users and that's not counting the people that haven't switched from OS 9 to OSX, thats saying a lot if you think about it in terms of the number of users and not a percentage of the market share.
