kenterlogic
Hey kids, If you read my post (and the consiquent 100 or so replies) about the new Dell XPS I ordered, you will be shouting at me after reading this. Anyhow, the Dell won't be shipped for another 10 days and I am having second doubts. With the Prescott processors on the way and new MoBos from Intel featuring the new socket coming jsut next month, I was thinking it may be a better decision to go with Alienware instead-- their prices actually aren't all that much different from Dell and, from what I have been told, Dell XPS case is built to prevent the changing of the MoBo which I would want to do sometime in Q3 2004. I would want to upgrade to a board supporting the new chips (the Grantsdale MoBo) and SDRAM PC2-4300. Also, Alienware offers a program that if you order upgrade parts from them then your warranty is NOT voided. Which is certainly a good thing since I don't want my nice 3-year plan to be voided the day I get my computer because I change out my sound card. What do you all have to say about this? Bizkit
I like Alienware cause they are a nice computer maker, and they are good looking. My friend has one, and they did help him upgrade, or thats what he told me. I would go with that.
lostspyder
tha alienware cases look pimp as balls, go with aleinware I dont know anything about there motherboards, but i think i read that they youse standard MB. Also i dont think that if you add on a sound card, its going to void your warently, i think your warenty gets voides if you do thing like swap oput the MB or CPU. Big drastic stuff that can realy screw up you computer. Also if it does bust, just take out the stuff and say that you "didnt do anything to it, the heatsink musta just kinda fell off" :D
pom
Eh.. depends on the system i guess. You could make a system on Alienware and get the same thing on Dell for much cheaper; you're just paying for the brand. However, i guess if they offer certain upgrades then you might as well. If you really want the Alienware, go ahead. Remember, normal Mobos don't fit in a Dell. They are customized so that it slips out of the case easily. Well, technically, your warranty isn't voided completely when you upgrade a Dell, but when you call Support to get something replaced you'll be in a hassle  You will need to return the system to the original config to qualify for support again  :o :x
