JohnsonBox
"Dunk a girl" or "dunk a chick", the slang prevails in China, including HK and Taiwan (I dunno the situation of Macao). It means "play with a girl". How do you say something like this in US/UK/Aus/Ca ... or any western country?

CoolCatBad
Hey JB, "dunk" means to immerse in water. Like pushing their head under the surface, not recommended as way to impress girls, but perhaps things are different in China. Methinks you mean "flirt" or "come on" (that could be tricky in translation) How are the fishmongers?

FlishFun Veteran Posted November 23, 2003 Veteran Share Posted November 23, 2003 I'd have to agree and say it's probably Rape (that's my US point of view, anyhow). We may need some more info from JB before we know if we're right. I mean "Play with a girl" and "Dunk a chick" are kinda vague. lol

JohnsonBox
Indeed "Dunk A Girl" has been expressed in an ambiguous way. As a boy, he does wish the dunking leads to sexually intimate behavior -- it depends on the boy's capabilities and whether or not the girl that he is playing with is willing. But all in all, the boy's behavior should abide by legal rule that is beyond so-called "rape" with which you guys cry to heavens. ;) The "dunk" in this thread, in Chinese language, it does mean "to plunge into liquid; immerse'. PS. Blaise, have you ever heard of "dunk the punk"?

Well, it would be more like flirting then, or "hitting on" a girl (in the US). For some of us older people, it might be called "making a pass" as well. Blaise, have you ever heard of "dunk the punk&quo:rolleyes:; Well I guess I was wrong about the rape idea. Glad you cleared tha:Dup! :D So now I'll have to agree with roadwarrior, it probably means "Hitting on a Girl". Which in this case, I can see Dunk not meaning literally "Dunk", just as "Hitting" doesn't litterally mean hitting. By the way, I've heard of "Dunk the Punk", but I know that doesn't mean the same th;)g. lol ;)

JohnsonBox
@ roadwarrior and FlishFun, Using "flirting" would lose the sense of humors, "hit on" means "come across", "make a pass"???
FlishFun Veteran Posted November 23, 2003 Veteran Share Posted November 23, 2003 @ roadwarrior and FlishFun,? ? ? Using "flirting" would lose the sense of humors, "hit on" means "come across", "make a pass"????&nb:blink:ink: Yes, when some one says "Hit on a girl" or "Hitting on a girl" they mean "making a pass" or "flirting" in a sense (at least in the US, don't know about other countries). So I'm pretty sure that "Hit on a girl" is the same as your "Dunk a girl":D :D

AQUaDeX
Oh, that's hooking up girls... (I guess) Someone please confirm :p and this is what the phrase means: You go to like a bar, wonder around there looking for good looking girls, and then approach her, buy her a drink and ask her out. By the way in Hong Kong we doesn't say 泡妞, instead we say 媾女 (mixing girls), which has the exact same meaning ;)
dougkinzinger
Yes, "hooking up with a girl" or "getting with a girl" ... even "dating a girl" for a more boring definition. nomis_nehc
haha, nice, I grew up in the US, but I can read a couple words here and there. I think the closest translation would be "hitting on", pimpin', holler, and etc of the sort. Btw, I am curious to why you are inquiring? Oh yeah, I just want to compliment and let you know that you really impress me with your English, since it's not your native language. Now all you gotta learn... slangs and vernaculars! JohnsonBox
See American vernacular usage about "dunk": dunk a biscuit into one's coffee Now, you try to get a chick and dunk her into your "coffee"(time), and then taste, enjoy her. AquaDex, your translation is too blunt straight, thus somehow the sense of humor has been lost. But mainland is different to HK, after all. PS. 媾女 is "to seduce girl" Edited November 23, 2003 by JohnsonBox
