+Frank B. Subscriber² Posted October 3, 2013 Subscriber² Share Posted October 3, 2013 Instagram to introduce ads in the coming months Instagram revealed today that it will begin inserting ads into users' timelines in the coming months. The company says it will start by "focus on delivering a small number of beautiful, high-quality photos and videos from a handful of brands that are already great members of the Instagram community." Instagram's approach to advertising will certainly cause ire among some of its users, but it shouldn't come as a surprise ? the service's parent company, Facebook, has been expanding its ad presence quite a bit over the past few years. As with Facebook, if users do not like an ad or find it offensive, they have the option to hide it from their feed and report it to Instagram. Countless companies have already been using Instagram as a promotional tool for years, but this new move will put inserted ads into your timeline even if you don't follow a particular brand or company. Companies that expand their advertising efforts often run the risk of alienating their most loyal users, but the business realities frequently give them little choice in the matter. After all, nobody pays a dime to use Instagram, so the company has to earn revenue if it is to stay operational. Instagram does make a point in noting that despite this new advertising expansion, users still own the rights to their photos and videos that they upload, and today's announcement doesn't change that. As it stands now, it doesn't seem like Instagram will be able to sell the rights to images and videos you upload without another change to its terms of service. mikesingh
If you don't pay for a service you have no right to complain about a few ads. AMEN... everyone is so entitled these days it's sickening. There's nothing wrong with using ads (properly!) to supplement providing a free service. I also support sites that break themselves when detecting an ad-blocker of any sort. Seeing the amount of people who think everything should be ad-free for their convenience is nuts and unrealistic.

game_over
Most ads these days are targeted so i don't see the problem. I actually like them. Last week i was looking for some new trainers to buy online, i didn't find anything i liked and then i started seeing ads all over the place with different styles of the trainers i wanted, i stumbled across a pair i loved and bought them. I also work in the web, so i get lots of related services on Twitter, i've found out about an amazing VPS company and get $10 free credit, and also picked up a deal from a company offering 99p domain names. Non of this would have been possible without ads :) embrace them.

Correct, accept in the case of yahoo ads which popup this HUGE annoying animated ad in the center of the page. Then they wonder why none uses them! mikesingh 1 Share
