A woman has come forward to claim she is the voice of Siri - the personal assistant app found on devices such as the iPhone and iPadIf found correct, Susan Bennett will not only have answered the obscure and burning questions of many people worldwide, but will also have unknowingly featured alongside stars such as Zoey Deschanel and Samuel L. Jackson.

Apple have never revealed who the voice behind Siri is, but Ms Bennett is certain that vocals that she recorded eight years ago, during her time as a voice actress, have been taken and used for the device.Ms Bennett was hesitant to admit her discovery at first, stating: ?I wasn't sure that I wanted that notoriety, and I also wasn't sure where I stood legally. And so, consequently, I was very conservative about it for a long time

It appears to be true.

Apple won't confirm it. But Bennett says she is Siri. Professionals who know her voice, have worked with her and represent her legally say she is Siri. And an audio-forensics expert with 30 years of experience has studied both voices and says he is "100%" certain the two are the same.

now, how would apple settle this one?

one time big payments? or

change the siri voices? or

pay the royalties continously?

What? They own the voice samples.

Do they have to?  She was paid when she recorded her voice initially, and I'm sure the company that sold her voice to Apple had a contract with her that would protect against things like this.

its entirely depend on how the contract was formed between her & the original company.

with some public opinion manipulation effort, this can lead to Apple being cheapskates.

Good material for Microsoft, if MSFT want to start scroogled-like campaign against Apple, i guess.

Much like photographic images the artist would have signed a waiver at some point and usually been paid for their services be it a one of payment or part of a salary.

Why does anyone even care? Voice actors do this kind of work all the time, and it's a standard contract agreement that the voice samples provided are not theirs.

TBH, the voice of SIRI is so crap, I assumed it was purely synthetic.

You mean you wouldn't want your tom tom to sound like Snoop Dogg, or Homer Simpson, Or Darth Vader, or the late Margaret Thatcher, or some other celebrity??

Not particularly, but that's not what I was saying anyway.

People buy celebrity voices because they want to (and many of them aren't even the real thing anyway), but SIRI's VA is hardly a celebrity, so why does anyone even care?  It's not like she's trying to sue Apple or anything (which she wouldn't be able to do anyway).

^ I think she came out because a recent article had stated someone else was SIRI and she wanted everyone to know that it was not that person but her. Apparently a lot of people that knew her and her work already knew it was her.
