Sho
Can't wait for that one. Use it all the time.
Tempest
Nice, yet again! I'm not sure what the patching stuff does, but I did it anyway. Looks great!
whack
All I need say is this one is it this is a true Release Candidate. Oh yes I love it
DoubleJ
I second that, it look awesome. One bug I noticed before, and it is still their, is with the restore button. On a maximized window, when switching between active and inactive, the restore button shifts back and forth a pixel or two. Also, when doing the same, the screw head shifts a little bit. Don't ask me how I noticed, just very observant I guess... or maybe anal. Yeah, thats probably it. Anyway great theme, I just though I'd point those two things out before it goes to release. Also, I've tried a number of things to fix the shell audio player with no luck. Perhaps if the shell player could be decompiled then the graphic it uses (the start user pane) could be changed. Another idea is that I recall reading somewhere that for transparency, windows sometimes uses magenta (255 0 255) and in other cases uses the color of a certain pixel within an image. What I am getting at is that perhaps another color could be used as the transparent color in the case of the start user pane... one that wouldn't be as ugly if it showed through, maybe black or grey. Not sure if its even possible though. Just some ideas. Great theme, one of my favorites. :D
whack
double J good Ideas on the audio player glitch unfortunately I tried them already as well as doing it as an alpha blended image with that section bairly visable none have worked yet and for some reason the shadow is always pink
ChaNinja
A couple of guys are having problems with the patch, I think its got to do with different versions of XP, I recon it only works with XP Professional English versions. Maybe the hotfixes by Microsoft also affects it. So what do you think of the changes guys? Cursors? Animations? The Copy/Move/Recycle bin animations were my first attempt, the next release will be optimized to make it more efficient and the graphics will be perfected. whack
The animations are sweet. Now can we get an XP folder Icon to match??? That would be great. Maybe even a few more Icons as well. The throbber is nice b/c it matches the colors but could we maybe get something a little more ChaNinja like instead of the windows flag?? The cursors kick ass nice job there. Especially like the install inf file. Glad to see you got the IE thing fixed (is that my bugfix or did you just get it on your own??) The corporate start menu looks good (once again my fix or did you just do it??) I love the taskbar update but I think I prefer the last systray over the new one. Thanx for including my screensaver did you get the newer version I sent you and if so did you just not like it as much?? Once again I love the shell32 hacks they are so nice. They really add alot to the style I am finding it harder and harder to use any other style for any reason. The menu speed reg hack is great

ChaNinja
Thanks DJP! :D Am I the first to hack shell32.dll? Or maybe just the first to go public with it. Hey Whack! The IE fix was your doing, thanks! The corporate start menu messup was just carelessness by me. I always work with the default scheme, then update the corporate scheme later. I don't think I got the latest screensaver, is it much different to the one included? If so please send. About the system tray...I'm a bit torn myself, I'll have to mess around a bit more, maybe a hybrid. More icons are on the way. Theres so much scope for customization with the shell32.dll. its just a lot of work. Can anyone host the patch files for me on a different site? That way I can keep updating it without having to upload the entire theme the whole time. I doubt Greg at themexp.org is gonna add a shell32 hack category.:devious: Does anyone like the new wallpaper? Doesn't seem so.

DJP
As far as i know you're the first who published a hacked shell32 with it.
andy_rose
WOW!this theme just proves that there is no need for windowblinds. atleast thats my opinion. to bad though that i cant get the shell patch to work. eventhough i'm running winxp pro english version. oh well, it's an exellent theme anyway!! Doggie
i love this theme, it's very nice, but i think it has two bugs, i don't know if call them bugs or problems, i'm using the spanish version of winxp. I don't know if you want to fix this and how, but see:
Tempest
I'm not using the new wallpaper, but I still use the plain gradient I requested a while back and thank you again. I'm sure there are a couple other people who like the clean look...I'm working on adding a Tool logo to it [rock group 'Tool']
whack
ChaNinja: I love the new background I thought I mentioned it guess I forgot as for the patches I can host them not a problem get in touch with me and we can discuss the details you know how. And also as far as the latest screensaver I'll send it to you. And as for a hybrid on the systray that might work I just like it with the ChaNinja purple kinda makes it show up more. DogChow: Well Yeah I'm kind fresh out of Ideas on that one I can adjust it some but not that much. I wasn't exactly planning on spanish when I made it. I really don't know I can try a few things though I do have a way with the shellstye. But it doesn't look real promising.
mDagar
I think I saw in the shellstyle.dll someplace that had a "Width" value. I didn't change it ... it was at 200 or something ... maybe you can just make them a bit wider and it will fit... ? I don't even know if it is for thos boxes. Might be for something else. I havn't gone very deep the shellstyle. All I have done it the shellstyle for Prophecy and my new theme. Whack is the expert :)
whack
For those having trouble with the patch here's a trick that might work try going into the shell32dllcache directory and deleting the shell32.dll in it. Then re-run the patch. If this does not work then try what I did make sure the shell32.dll is not in the system32dllcache and then copy your shell32.dll from the system32 directory to your desktop then also copy the patch to your desktop then run the patch and when it is complete copy the shell32.dll from your desktop into your system32 directory you should then get a winfodws file protection message box asking for the XP CD hit cancel and then on the next box that pops up that says unreconized file versio hit yes then reboot. Please if you are going to try these methods do them in order and let us know which one works. This will help ChaNinja document the workaround better in the future if neither one works please let us know that too
whack
Hey Xcert it's actually the padding selection that seems to effect the size of these guys I'll post what I do if I find a solution though
ChaNinja
Thanks for the troubleshooting Whack! I'll include that in the next readme if it works. Is there anyway you can make some mouseover effects for the expand / contract arrows on the shellstyle.dll. I've tried but I can't seem to open the extracted BMPs using photoshop, and when I try assigning my own BMPs I got an error (can't really remember what as this was some time ago). It just doesn't go with the rest of the theme don't you think? Thanks for the offer to host shell32 I'll get in touch soon...I have to start studying for an exam on Monday or else :dead: . So I won't have much time on my hands till after.
whack
ChaNinja Yeah a mouse over is easy I just got lazy when I did it I've been meaning to get to that and the reason you got the error is they need to be 32 bit bmps I can throw that ogether tonite at work. If you use AIM, ICQ, Yahoo, or MSN I have all of them it's all in my profile here on Neowin thats the quickest way to get ahold of me.

08993
Just a few points on the Shell32 patch. Firstly, it's best to tell users that the dllcache folder is by default hidden, and tell them how to unhide it. Secondly, if the user had the Windows XP install files stored locally, patching will not work because WFP will simply take the Shell32.dll from there and replace it without the user knowing. Fix is to tell them to simply rename i386/SHELL32.DL_ to SHELL32BAK.DL_, the user can then simply rename the file back after the reboot Another thing to make sure of is that the User doesn't have the Windows XP CD in the Drive, silly I know but it's possible :) This theme is awesome, I had to work out why the Shell32 patch wasn't working and it was because I had the XP install files stored locally. One thing I would request though for the next version, any chance of changing the Outlook Express WIndows Icon to have a grey background just like Explorer and IE? I like consistency hehe :)
ChaNinja
Cheers Iconman! Looking forward to it Whack, what program do use to make 32 bit BMPs by the way? I don't plan to, but just out of interest do you know how to change the text on the startbutton? What I do want to do is change the windows logo on the start button. Any tips? Jaysteddy! Good one! I'll make sure people know about this in the next release. Alot of people with other language versions of Windows e.g. French, Czech etc can't run the patch successfully...I've asked them to host their shell32.dll and I guess I'll have to download them and make separate patches for the different versions. Know if theres an easier way?
