+John Teacake MVC Posted November 23, 2003 MVC Share Posted November 23, 2003 What do u think MacDonnalds would say to this one. They must spend millions a year on those plastic straws just to see people waste them using them for anything else but drinks like pea shooters making things out of etc . . . anyway the straw bill must be millions just because of the wasteage. Why dont they build the cup lids with straws built in ?. Therefore one drink per straw per customer.
bayrider
it would probably cost more to make the cup with straw than it does to manufacture regular straws. Imagine making those cups w/strwas, ud need extra space for storage and shipping + the extra cost of manufacturing them. doesnt seem to be really worht it
+John Teacake MVC Posted November 23, 2003 Author MVC Share Posted November 23, 2003 well you would have to ship the straws and cups seperate anyway so that wouldnt cost more. the manufacture might cost more. you would realy have to work it out to see if it was going to be viable or not. Harsesis
copyright the idea and try selling it to then ;)
+John Teacake MVC Posted November 23, 2003 Author MVC Share Posted November 23, 2003 i dont think they would buy it.
jkinzer
How would you package a bunch of lids with straws sticking out the tops?
+John Teacake MVC Posted November 23, 2003 Author MVC Share Posted November 23, 2003 well there would have to design it, so maybe the straws could come flat and they have to pull them out or something.
pimpshiznid
well there would have to design it, so maybe the straws could come flat and they have to pull them out or something. You mean like a straw and lid that you have to blow up... I can see it now.... NEOWIN USER CREATES LEGENDARY 'INFLATABLE STRAW IDEA' Though, all sarcasm aside, I kinda agrre with BayRider on this one... There are a lot of reasons why they wouldn't do it... Yes, it may seem simpler, but the cost is all the company really sees....
bangbang023 Veteran Posted November 24, 2003 Veteran Share Posted November 24, 2003 They, most likely, don't manufacture their own straws. They probably by them in major bulk and wind up paying 1 cent (if that much) per straw.
poind
Would be highly impractical to build in straws to lids even if they could do so. The real money is in wasted napkins (let alone ketchup packets), McDonald's and elsewhere, not to mention general bags / packaging.
DsnBehind
A lid with a built-in straw would look weird. :|
+John Teacake MVC Posted November 24, 2003 Author MVC Share Posted November 24, 2003 So its not an idea thats going to make me millions then . . . back to programming i go
mr.dan
definitely less than a cent per straw. i bought some straws bulk about 5 years ago and i still have half a box. 10 for a penny
stncttr908 Veteran Posted November 25, 2003 Veteran Share Posted November 25, 2003 Even if it didn't directly save them money, a positive PR campaign relating to it and its diminished waste would probably pay dividends.
MxxCon
They probably by them in major bulk and wind up paying 1 cent (if that much) per straw. more like 1cent for 1000 straws. what I really want is eatable bag in which they would package burgers/sandwiches/any food w/ bread outside and food in the middle. you know like you bite on whooper and everything slips out on the table :/ or you eat philly cheese stake and all the tasty stuff is dripping down.. i saw some college kids created an eatable film out of egg white.. McD and other food places could "shrink-wrap" their products. it's much cleaner to eat and you'll actually be eating everything..instead of leaving it in the tray :D
