iPod's Dirty Secret

thank **** for free will. How stupid is it not to buy something based on one person that you don't even know that had a bad experience with it.

You lot of lemmings. My friend had troubles with WinXP the other day. Better not go buy it!! If one person had that problem, EVERYONE else HAS to have that same exact problem.

Show me where Apple guarantees the batteries will last longer than 18 months. Show me where they guarantee it will last such and such a time. He bought the iPod knowing full well this could happen. Rechargeable batteries die eventually

Is it just me, or are they putting the messages up in the city where no one even cares to look.. or maybe they dont pay attention at all to the stuff on the wall. If i wanted to make a difference, I would change that billboard they were last showing in the movie.

Man that's one ugly dude spray painting.

Almost two years for a battery is pretty good. Not being able to replace them or having to pay $255 + Labor to repair it is BULL SH!T. I hope I never have to take mine in to get it worked on. Apple is a HUGE rip off when it comes to repairs of any of their equipment.

Apple care is also available for iPods now, 2 years for around 50 dollars. Personally, I think that is well worth it. Or if you buy one through CompUSA or other major chains, they usually have a plan they offer for 2 years for around 30 dollars.

If you don't want to buy an iPod just because one bad experience out of the hundreds of thousands they have sold, I would like to see what you do spend your money on. Every product is going to have some defect in at least 1 unit. It's the same with LCD's and their bad pixel policies. Grow up ;)

Wow the Mac elitist defense team is out in full force!

Nobody is Apple bashing here. It's not even iPod bashing. People are just stunned that Apple doesn't allow you to buy and change a replacement battery for a reasonable fee!

I'm not trying to bash Apple, I think that the iPods are wonderful, but a little overpriced. I'd expect that for something that expensive, you'd get more than 18 months out of it, assuming that video is true.

I wasn't bothered about the 18 month thing, nothing lasts forever. It was more the $255 charge, but after seeing conflicting evidence in this thread god knows what to believe.

Where can you buy the ipod battery?

Sorry for my late reply.

http://www.ipodbattery.com/

An imaginative url I know ;)

They seem to sell replacement batteries for both 2nd and 3rd Gen iPods.. have heard on the iPodLounge that these work great.

Oh please. No one is defending Apple's actions. All that has been said is the 255 dollar replacement charge isn't the only way to fix the problem. Then throw in how everyone is jumping on the bandwagon by believing one guy. People here are correcting the mistake.

Believe me, when you get the iPod and actually use it, any doubts about whether you have bougt the right thing just leave your head totally.

It is an awesome piece of kit, it really is!! :)

Well on the site I linked to, there are full instructions. Though apparently its reccomended that you avoid using the metal plate they send you to open the back of the case, and instead use something like a thin plastic card to do it.

Apparently its easy enough to do, though I admit I would be shaking the whole time I took my iPod apart! :)
