I agree with what alot of people here are saying... Just because one person has a bad run of luck with a product, doesn't mean there all crap. Funny how a single comment can spur such animosity among others. Blind leading the blind I reccon :p

Lol... if you buy an iPod at either Best Buy or CompUSA, and get the 2-4 year service plans you can just bring it in and they'll replace it with a brand new one. If the one you have is not available (i.e, it doesn't sell anymore like the 5 GB), then they give you the one with the comparable price or store credit towards a new one. . Not so hard to do, and it only costs $29.99 - $39.99. The people at Best Buy and CompUSA probably know what it is like to go through Apple, and pay a giant fee. That's why they allowed these service plans, and the money you pay for them goes towards employees pays.

According to Dave Shroeder, the Neistat brothers (producers of the iPod's Dirty Secret movie) had no intent on letting people know that there were solutions available for replacing the battery in iPods. Dave had provided the Neistat brothers with a mirror (server space) for their website, ipodsdirtysecret.com, to host their now infamous movie. Dave did this with one condition, that they place links to services offering battery replacement solutions along with the movie. At first the Neistat brothers agreed, but then never posted any solutions as agreed upon. Dave has since removed the mirror to the website and has posted a text file containing the email conversations that took place between Dave and Casey Neistat. Dave told us, "Please spread the word on these brothers who'd rather spread lies than the truth."

Well i just got my iPod a week ago.

I hope that this battery thing lasts longer for me too.

If this battery does die quickly then i'll probably buy a battery and do it myself. Or maybe send it down to Apple if the price ever goes down.

But still, this battry should last much longer and the price should be much lower.

This is the first time i heard that batteries in these kind of things die, i have a lot of things working on rechargeable battries and none of them have died.

What accuaclly happens? Can you not turn it on or it just lasts for an hour or something?

Well although this is pretty lame the iPod is a great thing.

yah, because its very tight inside it, its best to have it done by a pro.

once u get ur ipod u will end up running hte battery down dead multiple times because u will be using it so much, i know i did.

After that i leave it in the dock all the time, than it will always be charged, and its great because after work ill slap it in there and the next day its all set to go :)

Its funny though.. after all that stink the Neitstat guy (or whatever his name is) STILL buys another iPod afterwards.

So if he was so dissatisfied, and if he broke his old iPod trying to install a replacement battery, why the hell did he buy another one? This isn't a bash at the iPod by the way - I am a very happy iPod owner :D I just can't understand that guys logic...

if i ever buy an iPod it will be a 4G or 5G one, just to make sure it has all the kinks worked out

These are not revision changes, they are generation changes. Kinks will show up in each new generation because it is a new design, not a revised previous design. Have fun waiting

I dont care personally if it lasts longer than 18 months. There is no excuse for the battery not being easily replaceable. Also that $99 battery replacement service is not available in Europe.
