DUDES~!!!!

BY A Pocket PC or something!

I can listen to all my MP3s, watch the MATRIX RELOADED (which is a legal backup copy of my DVD... i think), and I can even write my lab reports while I'm sitting somewhere.

Granted, the battery lasts only 6 hours with all the power saving options on, or a bit longer with the screen off (just listening to a playlist of mp3s) but it still kicks IPOD butt.

Plus, you pay what, $250 dollars for a 10 GB Ipod?

I paid only a little more than that for my Toshiba Pocket PC (including extra memory, etc)!

Granted, I can only have a 256 MB card, but IPAQs can have 2 GB i think, because they have two expansion slots.

BTW, I've seen how many Mac users have posted. Dont shoot it down just because it's a primarily windows product :)

Actually, it works well with linux as well...

if this thread was about handheld computers, ur arguments would be great. THis is about mp3 players though, and you cant match what hte ipod is capable with in terms of music, space, organization etc. with a pocketpc.

and a 2gb compact flash card is 700 dollars, which isn't too practical...

I'm very amused at the posts in this thread... and that's why I decided to join in the FUN!

My opinion:

It was kind of ridiculous for these guys to go around defacing ads and posting a anti-iPod video because of their one negative experience - which turns out to be a big mistake because someone was giving them the wrong information. I respect and even like the iPod even though I don't own one and would really like to see people try out other hard drive based audio players.

The only issue I see here is the cost difference between replacement by yourself and sending it in to be replaced. Fifty dollars is a bit too much for service in my opinion, especially if the battery itself costs the same. If Apple wants to show that it is a great company that is willing to provide amazing service, it should be replacing these batteries for no extra cost (beyond the $49) or very little cost. Perhaps I am wrong in assuming that fifty dollars is too much for this kind of service, correct me if I am wrong please!

Not entirely true. Go to newegg, or pricewatch and you can find some for as low as 200...if you think an extra 500 bucks in your pocket is worth the hunting...

ok, well, either wya pricewise its not as practical.

ipod 20gb, 399.

pocketpc, 400 bucks, 2gb card, 200 bucks = 600 dollars.

ok, now for 600 you can get a 40gb ipod + a very nice set of headphones.

or, you can get hte pocketpc and still have 1/10 of hte storage minus whatever space is used for apps and other stuff.

A Pocket PC is definitely no replacement for a dedicated MP3 player. Pocket PCs maybe great for other things and possibly playing MP3s on the side, but in so many ways it does not make sense to use it as an MP3 player - sound quality, price, interface, size, etc. I'm very interested in knowing how it "kicks IPOD butt." If it matters, this is coming from a user of both Windows and Pocket PCs.

hell yea thats what I do, 256mb CF is good enough for me. I fit 40-50 mp3's on there and anything else I can stream via wifi or iradio through the wifi. Plus my battery lasts over 16-18 hours. If i ever get bored with the songs I'll switch every week or two weeks, they're mostly trance/techno so impossilbe to overplay trance.. I dont know wtf you fill up a 40gig Ipod with anyway

music, and all other files you want... :)

plus: ppc is nice...but not all people will use the features...

an mp3 player is designed to play mp3s, yeah the ppc can hold 2 gigs...but some people have more than that dont you think?

  • 2 weeks later...

regardless of whether or not apple claims the battery will last longer than 18 months or if it is only one persons experience, its a well known fact that even rechargable batteries eventually die and apple should have given customers the ability to replace the battery easily without voiding any warranties or dishing out over $200 for a freakin battery. Everyone bashes MS all the time for their money making schemes but this is by far the worst one ive ever seen. Good going apple, **** off what few customers you have!

Btw, i was thinking about buying an ipod but im gonna wait off until apple decides to change their attitudes towards their customers.

If you are patient, I would wait for the fourth generation.

Or you could get a Zen NX (available now) which has an easily replacable battery, is a lot cheaper, and has a better signal to noise ratio

Fourth generation iPods will be announced on January 6th, including new budget-priced models, such as 2GB or 4GB, starting at $99.

They will also come in many different colors, plus the "big" iPods will get new colors, too.

Are you sure thats really fourth gen? The new miniPods will be new. But the new colors on the current models isnt exactly a new concept/design for a another generation. See what I mean?

the smaller iPods will be flash based, which means it will be unlikely it is USB 2.0 (from what i've read, Flash players are bottlenecked with fast transfer rates). i don't know if "smaller" refers to the iPod being physically smaller, or if it is just referring to having a smaller capacity.
