RAGING @ NFS:UDRGRND

Recommended Posts

if you want crash damage then buy Destruction Derby ;)

ppl want realistic simulation.

and part of that simulation are realistic(or at least what feels like realistic) physics and damage model

how real is it when you hit a guard rail at 45' and bounce off w/o damage and going 75% of original speed?

i think the games is well made and correspond to its theme.., underground....

these riders don't use maclaren to streetrace.. right...? they use modded everyday car.., and that's the whole point...

if people are looking for a simulator as such, well then theres gran turismo, which did a wonderful job on physics and gameplay, etc. but in that game as well you will notice there is no damage. i just think the car companies would not want their masterpieces to be messed up that badly when you hit a wall at 204mph.

oh and yeah theres obviously more than one person/company to get nitrous from.. thats why they always gave brand packages in nfs:ug.. even though i dont know what the purpose of that was.. (satisfaction?).. and personally.. fast and the furious is not a place to get racing tips from.. barely real at all.. if at all

This is game is actually pretty poor... when you actually stop thinking about racing and try and drive normally...

It IS TRUE THAT CAR COMPANIES DO NOT ALLOW GAMES DEVELOPERS TO ADD REALISTIC CRASH DAMAGE TO THEIR VEHICLES

it is NOT TRUE. it's an "urban legend". just becuase many people say it, doesn't make it true.

there are plenty of games that have realistic car damage that use existing/past/future car models

MxxCon, it takes only one company to say no to EA about damage, and the damage model is out. I think even GT3 doesn't have damage, because of the same reason.

Besides, NFS:U particularly is not a simulator. It is impossible to make an UNDERGROUND simulator. About the horn, well, in 175 MPH, I don't think it metter wheter you horn or not, you gonna crash in the traffic cars anyway.

Name some of them games??

IF they do, i bet you can still drive into a wall at 155MPH and get a smashed windscreen and slightly dented bonnet ;)

It doesn't give me the sensation of speed.

Play it for Xbox dude! The Xbox-version of the game(play) seems a ****load faster than on the PC. If you don't sense speed there, then I don't know what you need for the sensation of speed! :D

Oh, and BTW, I don't know if it's just my Xbox or NFS:U copy that's fscked or if it really is that much different from PC, haven't heard anything about it, but I've seen it. Seems strange you know...

Nice car u had there... ;)

MxxCon, those are games with only few licenses (1-7). Gamse like NFS have 20+ cars, meaning 20+ licenses. You can't say it's EA's fault, cause they had (pretty) realistic damage in High Stakes (EUROPE: Road Challenge) and Porsche Unleashed (EUROPE: Porsche 2000). PU had one of the most realistic damage, it can even be compared with today's games, even with Toca.

Yeah, TOCA was cool. There are some companies that have said they don't like including damage models on their cars (BMW) and others that won't allow their cars in a game unless they are about equall to their competition in the game (which seems to have happened in NFS:U). My biggest complaint about the game is that there is no WRX STi and no EVO, which is quite pathetic. Plus, there is only one course ... and the long winding courses were always a big part of NFS games.

Oh, and there's no McLaren. I really wish there was one, just one, so I could take ever single car in the game to town.

And the AI isn't that bad, it could push you into columns or cut your rear wheels all the time (like I do to it), but it doesn't. The traffic, on the other hand, sucks, because it either randomly cuts into your racing line or shows up around blind corners. Very bad choice on EAs part for difficulty correction.

An underground McLaren with NOS and vinyls... Jeez, I would like too see that.

About the one course, it's one big city, and each track opens parts (streets) of the city. Too bad, though, you can't ride in the whole city, like in Midnight Club II.

So this is the main NFS:U Flame Thread eh!

Lets see, I didn't like that you couldn't explore the streets however you wanted, it would either Reset your position or say "WRONG WAY".

I also ended up disabling a bunch of Music trax which I hated big time.

Howcome I can't put my name on my Car, they offer customization but hardly enough for a person that truly wants to personalize a car.

I agree the AI is poor, as it tries to crash into you all the time, especially in the drag race, they use the nitro to stay right beside you when the road block is coming up, that is soo funny.

Anyway, I think EA did with the game what they intended to, they brought the complex of the Fast and the Furious into a video game, successful game, just not for me, i'll be disposing of it once I show all my friends their cars.

BTW, is there a Favorite Car Thread yet!

I honestly only tried maybe 3 cars in the game, I hate Most every car there.

End of Flame

Yes, that's true, it's a shame EA didn't put that option, but I guess it would take lots of resources to load the whole city.

In my opinion, EA TRAX are great, the combination of rap and rock is great.

Think about it, wouldn't you knock out the oponents, and be able to win that way?
BTW, is there a Favorite Car Thread yet!

Try the Official NFS:U Cars Thread.

I guess the NFS: Underground game is almost a Add-on game as such. As its not as such a full game, just part of the performance scene... wonder if there will be anymore NFS games (full new game) before the PS3?

I think a lot of the ire from this game is from NFS veterans, and notice that a LOT of things are missing from this game vs. the classics:

- no replay (in NFS3 you could save the replay or even view it to a ghost car)

- no interiors/dashboards

- no split-screen head to head racing (yes, two people on one PC)

- no LAN play

- no car showcase (NFS2 especially had pages of interesting stats and "rock videos" of each car)

- very limited car camera choices (no track cam, for example)

- no truly exotic super cars (but this is more a personal preference than anything)

- no truly unique, individual tracks

- arcade-ish physics, even for a NFS game (hitting walls and still going at 100mph)

- the extra touches, like the horn, secret concept vehicles like the Ford Indigo

But NFSU has some good points:

- finally tracks with city driving

- the sensation of speed (wooshing as you fly by objects, car shaking)

- the most driving modes of any NFS to date (circuit, sprint, drag, drift...in clock, opponent, knockout or tourney variations)

- car customization (hey, it's fun, and a lot better than High Stake's "package A, B, C" idea of modification)

- EA trax (love or hate it, at least it's real music, not just instrumental techno)

- it is still twice the game NFS:Hot Pursuit 2 was!

So why are the NFS games of 2003 so different from the ones we grew up with? The first few NFS games were developed by Distinctive Software Vancouver, who also made Stunts and Test Drive II before EA bought them out. After NFS3 they became EA Sports, and the creators of the SSX, NHL, and Tiger Woods series.

NFS:HS and PU were done inhouse (EA Seattle?). EA had NFS:HP2 and NFS:U done by a brand new dev, Black Box, also in Vancouver. They also made EA's Nascar Thunder 2002 and Midway's NHL Hitz 2002.

I think the game is fun. I own a 2002 Lancer ES, so its fun for me to customize it the way that I want to in real life, then take it down the drag track. It was funny, cause I bought it, then raced like 2 races, then put the body kits on it and drag raced and wrecked. I was like, "I'm glad that this is a game, or I would be ******."

The only thing I don't like it it doesn't have hidden cars and the traffic sucks balls. I just don't like it when you are driving like 150 and BAM! there is a car pulling out of the ally and your on the last lap of 7, and you have to restart. Not cool.

You're right NOS is a COMPANY, not the nitrous oxide itself. There are other companies producing nitrous oxide systems, it's just that NOS is the most popular. I was referring to those kids who think that NOS is the liquid itself. You helped make my point, thanks.

As far as the shaking being realism - it's not realism. Things seem to be blurry and shaking at high speeds, but the game doesn't seem real at all. It doesn't give me the sensation of speed. Nothing about the game is real. Oh btw I used to own a 66 1/2 Mustang with a N.O.S. system. And I'm a very old man at the ripe age of 26! ;)

Calm down and try not to be so ingorant next time.

my dad's 57 Chevy Bel Air has a Nitrous Oxide System with a 100 shot of Nitrous, and yes, it will shake the car, yea it will shoot flames out the back, and yea it will do just about everything it can to Shake that car.

i don't know all the real specs of the car, but I know it will rip down a 1/4 mile in about 6.8* seconds. But thats from expirence with a real hot rod, and not some Rustang :(.

overall, I really like this game. I don't think I have been so addicted to a pc game and played it so much in such short amount of time.

but I really want that damn replay though...! they must come out with some kind of patch... I don't care if it's a 100mb patch... I want it.

I don't like the AI in this game, the AI cheats. The AI smashes into the back of your car and you spin right around arrrrggggg. If you do it to them the AI just keeps on racing like nothing is happening. Also I hate the traffic, on this on drag track there is a train, at this one point the train comes out right as you are to go right by it and BANG, the car is totaled. I tried the level again and let the AI player go ahead of me and the AI player had plenty of room to spare before the train came, arrrrrgggg  . But all in all I like this game its sweet that you can customize sweet cars. its a nice change from other NFS games.

On the right side there is a ramp, hit that ramp and you'll be ok.
