Need Your Opinion on this situation

alright, first off i have a 1995 Pontiac firebird 3.8L. Last month i got my radiator flushed beacause a local lube place told me i should when they were giving me an oil change. They told me it needed to be flushed cuz it was dirty. So i agreed to them flushing my radiator. When the job was done everything was fine until the next day when i drove it and i saw sign of overheating. So i took it back and they told me that my engine wasn't overheating and everything was fine. But my guage showed sign of overheating, and finally when the thing hit 260 my engine stopped and the check guages light went on. After that when i turned my car back on the rpm's on it jumped and coulnd't stabalize. So i got it towed to a well known machenic who dignosed that my top and 2 bottom manifolds were messed up and that there was Water in the engine. So they changed everything on it and all that which cost me about $710. Now today when i was at the dealers place getting my radiator power flushed cuz there was oil in it cuz my engine was opened, they were telling me that the only way my manifolds could mess up was if my engine was overheating and that was the cuase of it. So this means' the when i got my radiator flushed the first time, they put in the wrong type of coolent which formed a gel like stubstance when the 2 diff kind of coolents mixed cause my radiator to get blocked thus causing my engine to overheat. Now what i want to know from you guys is that should the lube place pay for my repairs since they were the ones who made the mistake and put the wrong type of coolent in and caused my engine to overheat?? SHOULD THEY BE RESPONSIBLE TO PAY FOR IT? OR NOT? or did my manifold just go out suddenly and water got in my engine??

PS. Serious answers only thankx

Personally, I'd hire a lawyer and sue the first mechanic. He should have checked to see if the coolant he put in was compatible with your vechicle before he started. Just make sure you have all the paperwork and receipts.

Mechanics are ledgendary for screwing people over, if I were you I wouldnt stand for it, read the contract, talk to the 2nd mechanic (he seems a bit more reasonable, but dont tell him why you want to know all these things unless you can trust him) about the technical side, read the contract, and then go talk to a lawyer

Well I'm a mechanic so I might be able to help you with some advice. First of all I'll explain what they did. Newer GM vehicles (such as yours) use a new kind of coolent called Dex-cool, it's easily identifiable from normal coolant since Dex-cool is red. But when Dex-cool and regular anti-freeze mix they form a gelatanous gel that clogs your cooling system (as you found out).

Now at least in Minnesota you can go back on the people who screwed up your car (the lube place in this matter) and make them repair it. If they are not qualified (qualified according to the state, not to you :D ) they have to pay somebody who is qualified to fix it for you. I'm not a lawyer (so you can't take what I say for law) but I'm sure where you live it's similar. Anyhow if I were you I'd talk to a lawyer and get this straitened out. It's moron mechanics like that, that make the rest of us look bad, and I love seeing them get sued.

I agree, see your Lawyer. File a complaint against them with the business board or E-mail GM about it to see if they wanna do something to the company where it was a GM product. Theres some way you can get something from them either monitarily in your pocket or out of theirs.

same here, make them pay for it. i wouldn't sue them, because there are enough people in this country already who are overly sue-happy, and we don't need any more  just make them pay for the damage/repairs and that should be good enough IMO (Y)

"see your lawyer" are you all from the US or something? Go ack to the mechanic ask for the owner, explain the situation bring photocopies of the dealers findings and try to resolve it. If that doesn't work tell him you'll file a complaint with the Better Buisness Bureau and recoupe your losses. If that doesn't work, do that and seek legal council.
