yayaba
From Gamespot: http://www.gamespot.com/all/news/news_6084558.html Notable quote: "Nintendo is also facing internal challenges. It has always depended to a great extent on first-party must-have franchises to carry it. However, in this generation, some of its software based on franchise characters, such as Mario, have not been as successful as in the past. In addition, attempts to create new franchises, such as Pikmin, have not been as successful as anticipated. This puts a tremendous financial strain on Nintendo, because its third-part relationships have not traditionally been as strong as its competitors." Yes we've all heard the doomsday articles and such but I guess this was another reference to all that... Seriously speaking though, I would not have picked up a Cube myself if it had not dropped to $99. The fact that people are willing to shell out higher prices for a PS2 and Xbox says something. Joel
People also shelled out big bucks for the Cube at launch. Means nothing, really. People buy what they want, the lower price for the Cube just means that they can reach a wider audience now, by allowing other console owners a less costly alternative to the one they may own. Bant Veteran Posted November 25, 2003 Veteran Share Posted November 25, 2003 The fact that people are willing to shell out higher prices for a PS2 and Xbox says something. it says that the common consumer is easily pursuaded by whats commonly known as cool, and whats commonly known as kiddy. it doesnt matter how expensive something is, if society blindly deems it cool, its cool, and you have to have it ;p

I've been playing videogames since the late 70's. One common ground for every platform ever made was the number of games. Quality wasn't an issue, it was games, games, games. The PS2 has them, and the Xbox is really starting to make its mark as a serious console. Nintendo has an amazing piece of hardware, but NO GAMES. Zelda: late. Mario: late. Metroid: late. Everything else was a waste. I bought one the day it was released and I can't even tell you what games I bought with it (I think it was SSB). The GC had, what, Super Monkey Ball? Hmm..Super Monkey Ball vs. Halo vs. GTA: VC. There's nothing blind about it, it's a simple fact that the PS2 and Xbox have the better games, period. Mike it may be a simple fact that you believe the ps2 and xbox to have better games. but not everybody shares those feelings. the majority of consumers ARE molded by the media and social pressures, just as the majority of voters are. halo and gta3 arent everybodies cup of tea. halo was just a rehash of perfect dark and half life, with worse level design and better graphics. and gta3 was just big because everybody made it out to be so big. sure it was a great game, but many people liked, and bought it, simply because all their friends bought it. when did this become an argument about launch titles anyway? you listed 1 game for xbox, and 1 game for ps2, and then listed a bunch of great games for the gc, get a clue, you are arguing against yourself. the point is, the gc has a ton of great games out for it now, the only thing holding people back from buying them is their misconception that gamecubes are kiddy, or have bad graphics, or lack good games, etc.... its all just blind ignorance. Starman
First off, the GC did poorly out of the gate simply because it didn't have any good titles on launch day. The PS2 had DOA2, Ridge Racer V, SSX, and Tekken Tag Tournament, NHL2001, Unreal Tournament, Madden NFL 2001, and others. The Xbox had Cel Damage, Halo, DOA3, Madden NFL 2002, Mad Dash, Oddworld, Project Gotham Racing, Shrek, Tony Hawk, and others. Now let's look at the GC launch day lineup: Super Monkey Ball, Wave Race, Luigi's Mansion, SSB, Pikmin, ISS2, Burnout, and..hmm..there has to be more here somewhere. Nope, THAT'S IT. The console was DOOMED FROM DAY ONE. It has nothing to do with social pressures, IT HAD NO GAMES. And if you think Halo is just a rehash of Perfect Dark, man, oh MAN do you not know your videogame history (hint: Halo's a sequel to a Macintosh game, but don't tell anyone). matt74441
Gamecube has the reputation of being a 'kiddie' system. I'm not going to say that it isn't, because it is. Mature games like Metroid Prime and Eternal Darkness got me to buy the system, but my system hasn't been turned on it seven months because I've already beaten both of them. The Gamecube is an amazing system, Metroid Prime showed what it's capabilities were, but Nintendo isn't putting it to its full potential. Gamecube has the ability to go online, but its too expensive, and I can only think of one game that actually does it (Phantasy Star). The ability to hookup a GBA is a great idea, but there is no real point in doing it. The system has three expansion ports, and all you can hookup is the modem and a Gameboy player (exciting). If Halo had been released on Gamecube instead of XBOX, it would be a very different system today. Its unfortunate, but the games make or break the system, and when theres no games to choose from... On a side note, the Gamecube is $139 in Canada, but my local Blockbuster store still has one for sale from the launch for $249.
-=SD=-
True at launch had nothing, but now it has some great games, and at $99 (79 at wal-mart like I said) it is soooo worth the money, just for the future games of metroid prime 2, resident evil 4, mario kart and 1080 makes me go out and buy it. Also the older games, metroid prime, mario sunshine, zelda ww, timesplitters 2, resident evil: remake, and 0, eternal darkness were all good games... and exclusives (execpt timesplitters 2, tho that game ran best on the cube.) Haha, Marathon. I can remember playing that on my 68040 with 8 megs of RAM (or was it 16?). That was a long time ago, and that's the computer that made me say that I'll never buy another Mac :). MEMO.INC
In those days nintendo had a big number of titles for nes..(still the console i like the most) I bought PS2 when it came up, I was one of the first to have it.. i loved it, i loved the fact that i sold my ps1 for a good amount of money chipped with lots of "backups"... with that i payed the half of my Ps2.. and i could still play my original ps1 games on ps2, plus dvd... I bought PS2 for the games, really, I was excited about the cube cause i will allways like games like mario kart or zelda, but i fell dissapoited by the "cartoonish" style of the game.. and more dissappointed by the lateness of the release.. (this is my opinion). I was more excited about cube than xbox (wich i tought back then that was an excentric move from MS), it would be the next in my list after a year with ps2, but for my surprice, a year later i bought an xbox... why, it was a good price, linux capable, with an enourmous amout of games (with emulators and such) and for the succes of xbmp. The next time will be close PS3, xbox2..Nintendo...

kak
I didn't know you had to have a well written paragraph to give an opinion? Opinions are opinions, it doesn't matter if you waste your time writing a paragraph that 3/4 of people will read the first line and make their opinion out of it or just clearly stating it. Gamecube has good games, as does the PS2 and XBOX. It's all based on what the person buying the console likes.
