Analysis: Nintendo in last place

haha mike... you're the one talking about twelve your olds, when you're judging people without knowing them. you might not like my version of a 'magazine', but it's my life.

so SORRY it couldn't conform more to your beliefs.

but it's always fun to have people on my site ;)

starman, going back to what bant said, clearly you're not the average consumer. you're a hardcore console gamer who's been playing since the 70's, so of course his theory wouldn't apply to you. However, I agree with bant that the average consumer is driving to buy what is "cool". happens all the time

First off, the GC did poorly out of the gate simply because it didn't have any good titles on launch day. The PS2 had DOA2, Ridge Racer V, SSX, and Tekken Tag Tournament, NHL2001, Unreal Tournament, Madden NFL 2001, and others.

The Xbox had Cel Damage, Halo, DOA3, Madden NFL 2002, Mad Dash, Oddworld, Project Gotham Racing, Shrek, Tony Hawk, and others.

Now let's look at the GC launch day lineup: Super Monkey Ball, Wave Race, Luigi's Mansion, SSB, Pikmin, ISS2, Burnout, and..hmm..there has to be more here somewhere. Nope, THAT'S IT. The console was DOOMED FROM DAY ONE. It has nothing to do with social pressures, IT HAD NO GAMES.

And if you think Halo is just a rehash of Perfect Dark, man, oh MAN do you not know your videogame history (hint: Halo's a sequel to a Macintosh game, but don't tell anyone).

Mike

I dont seem to remeber TTT and UT being a PS2 lauch title ;)

GC had good games like Eternal Darkness too  There are more games coming

I own both a PS2 and Gamecube...and to be 100% honest...they get equal playtime. I don't understand why the market is shifting away from Nintendo. I dished out $150 for my cube a bit back and when the price drop rolled around...I honestly thought it was worth the $50 extra.

Animal Crossing

Disney's Magical Mirror: Starring Mickey Mouse

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets

Rayman 3: Hoodlum Havoc

Makes you want to go out and get one.

not one of those games looks any good. the only game making me want a cube is double dash

I'm sure Mario Part 5 isn't bad with 3 other friends. Even with just me and my friend, we were laughing our head's off at the demo included with Double Dash and that was just 5 mini-games too.

i just bought a gamecube yesterday. for 2 reasons, the zelda bonus disk, and double dash. kinda funny i've gotten 3 other games also even though i had no intention to yet.

the problem is people just don't want to try it. you get it in your mind that ps2 and xbox are so much better and you don't realize what the gc can do. just because it can't play dvd's and the games are on little cd's doesn't mean that it isn't as good as the others. and to say that the gc doesn't have enough games is stupid. i have a ps2 also and the gc definately doesn't have anywhere near the amount of games, but there are a few in each category that i could see myself buying. it's not necessarily the total number of games they have available that's important, it's the availability of the games you enjoy that is the key factor.

You can sit there and say all those games are bad, but hell, I know college girls who sit on their GC that Daddy bought them and play cute little Animal Crossing all day long. Personally, I love Zelda for GC, and I played a few other games on there like Street Hoops, which is now on all systems, but GC has some unique games that draw appeal, but you guys who express the fact they don't have a lot of power in the games department, it's definitely true.

I really think XBOX is gonna be taking a large portion away from PS2, mainly because they've made the deals for the future for better chipsets and graphic acceleration. But, XBOX right now has a slight edge in performance, but PS2 has the games, although, that is reaching an equilibrium now that most games are being released for every system.

I bought a ps2 probably 2 years ago, its hardly been used compaired to the cube that I bought a month ago, which I absolutely love now. It's a real console, with console style pickup and play games. *exactly* what I want when I'm drinking with mates, or after a hard day at work. The cube is a gamers console, the PS2 is a family entertainment system.

(I heard you could actually get a wool-removal tool for the PS2. Must be a lot of sheep who own it.;) )

Oh, and you paid for your college education all by yourself?

lol, first, those are all bad games in general, second you listed Mario Sunshine twice, third if you think the GBA SP is a joke, you must be out of your mind. What do you have, a PS 2 and an N-Gage?

Let's not forget that the Cube has F-Zero (the best racing game out now, save the GT series), Zelda (still the best adventure game) and Metroid (seriously ... best game ever). Not to mention not one but TWO Super Monkey Balls :D

And Pikmin

Sony was the first of the console groups to limit cross platform games for stuff other than original characters like mario and zelda.

I can understand the non-porting of original character games.

Nintendo will always have my support.

PeeS2 will never interest me. F Sony.

Retchbox will never interest me. F m$.

The list you replied to was a piece of sarcastic trolling.

BTW, when you list a bunch of 'kiddie' games first make sure they all suck. Then make sure they aren't multiplatform.

What?

Sony never had anything to do with Mario and Zelda.

Either you made a typo, or you're just trolling.

I think he's trying to say Sony was the first to start getting exclusive third party games.

If that's what he meant Sony obviously wasn't the first, in the NES days Nintendo did the same thing.

The contracts helped stabilize the market after the crash, but it also kept any potential competitors from getting game support. The idea is even older than that though.
