why don't they make a 2D Mario World for gamecube

...with enhanced graphics and such...i think that would be much better gameplay than 3d mario games like sunshine, which is confusing and not very user -friendly..also boring for me....ahh...if it was more like a Mario World 3 or Super Mario World 4 Type game...just with more detailed graphics and larger levels with multi-player modes, it would be tyte...don't you agree?

I think thats a neat idea, but I'd like to see a 3-d remake of the entire game. That would be totally kick ass, if they kept true to the original.

Go Nintendo!

The reason is because technology has advanced games past the 2D world. Most people prefer games with 3D movement IMO. It would be a step backwards to make such a game, unless it was just a re-release or remake of an old game. Nintendo has done this with Zelda, though. They released the previous 3 or 4 Zeldas and are giving it away with purchases of GameCube. I don't know if you can buy the game.

Apparantly, Mario 128 is the supposed "3D remake", sort of how Mario 64 did for the N64.

What I would like to see is not only maybe a new 2D Mario game, but also a "Mario Collections" type game where each and every Mario ever made was included, sort of how they are doing with Zelda.

I was talking about this with my friend the other day, and we both came to the conclusion that 2D platform games just aren't the "thing" anymore. As much as we all liked them (and continue to like them) I just don't see it happening. But that's what makes me love Nintendo is their penchant for keeping games just that...games. They are fun and entertaining, and not necessarily just a "graphics ######" product. So, maybe they will make me wrong, I hope they do.

Nintendo, "Seal of QUALITY"

How is 2D a step backward...2D is simply different. There could still be 3d puzzles but i think really the allure of mario world is that its simple, straightforward, yet exciting and mind boggling fun. whereas mario sunshine was hardwork and easily got very boring...ugh. :x

I suppose you could do a 2.5D game kinda like Klonoa or Pandemonium, with splits in the path like you got in the Super Mario World map, but actually in the game. Also have the whole game stream so there is no visible breaks between levels, but maybe instead goals you want to achieve.

I thought they would have done the "Mario Collections" type game when Sunshine came out, much how they did Master's Quest when Wind Waker came out. Of course, Nintendo probably thought that since SMS was going to be the "game to sell the GC" they didn't want to rehash older games. I think a Mario bonus disc would have generated much more sales for the simple fact that the previous Mario games were "pick up and play" whereas Zelda is much more time consuming and "mature", if I can use that word loosely. I know they already did Mario All-Stars, so maybe that was the reasoning <?>

Oh well, if it happens, great, if not, then I will still love Nintendo and will be forever grateful for emulation and those who spent their time and hardwork into creating it.

And 2d is certainly not a step backwards. Games are about gameplay. Throw all the graphics at a game, but if it's crud it's crud. You cant polish a turd!

And seeing as (IMHO) Maria had amazing gameplay, surely they don't wanna let this go?

if anyone was to do a 2D game in this generation of consoles, it would be Nintendo. they're not afraid to put out a game that might receive criticism.. and you can bet your butt it would. from who? any other console fans. "omfg teh game suxors!! its 2d!!! LOLOLOL"

I am getting an xbox (possibly the most powerful console in terms of specs - no flame please). What am I wanting to run? Fo sho I wanna emulate SNES and run Mario. So basically, after over 10 years that game still rocks - testament to gameplay over graphics.

Most of the older 2d marios are comingout on GBA so I recently bought a gameboy player for my GC and play all the ones that have came out on GBA on there. Fun as ****.

nj..of course theres going to be exceptions to what I said. Like you for example, or myself. I have both the Xbox and GC. I was just saying that it would receive criticism.. look at how most people reacted to the cel shaded Zelda :/

because no one wants to play a 2D game anymore, especially on GameCube....

I would like to. Just because a game is 2d doesn't make it inferior to 3d games. It's all about the gameplay :)

Seriously...this whole 3-d thing gets out of hand sometimes...Don't get me wrong, I love 3-d games but I'd much rather play classic 2-d mario games than that freaking Mario Sunshine game for Gamecube...

I think a quasi-2d game Mario game would be best. Take a look at Viewtiful Joe.

totally agree. VJ pulled it off perfectly. Mario could be done in this manner, most definately

I guess it could, but i wouidl rather a shiney new 3d product :). Like after playing mario 64 i see no reason to go back to 2d. sure they were hella fun, but the new oens have the potential to be even better.

ya a 2d game could be nice, but then there would be tons whining about how it looks. of course with 2d you could increase the graphics A LOT so i dunno, would be worth a shot

there is a sonic collection for gc. it has 7 old sonic games on it, all exact ports of the originals.
