BOOGSoftball, your frivolous behavior just showed us your foolishness. Cheeba is a slang usage for marijuana. Webster is retarded for this one. You'd better ask those savvy native English speakers.

JB....I think this explains everything perfectly. Websters does not put slang words in their dictionary because slang words are more of a 'fad' something that doesn't stand the test of time.

Websters is retarded for it? I highly doubt it. Websters, of all things, should be your friend as you learn English, JB. Not the Urban Dictionary.

Just some simple advise.

Hmmmm, take it easy? Do i want to make online friends? I think i will stick to the real world. What people make of my comments online does not matter to me. As long as i have friends in the real world that is all that matters.

(God he cant have many if this is the attitude he has)... Well i dont see people asking questions such as this in the real world and i am sure you would not be so painfully argumentative in real life.

When i go on the Neowin meet, i am not going to stand there saying blah blah blah. Do you not think that when people are online they express things that they normaly would not in real life? (some however seem to just want to argue rather than express)

As for your obvious patriotic words, well i usually as in this case, let them go over my head. Patriotic words being, 'calm down blah blah blah'.

Anyways, obviously i do not understand why some people online seem to enjoy arguing about others comments... people such as you dk.

I saw no reason for you to get all on the offensive with him but yet you did...

Sorry this is off subject but hey.

I think it's obvious that he was not truly asking for help with this post. People have tried to help him and he has done nothing but insult them. I don't know why anyone still bothers with him.

Oh, and also, the original paragraph is not correct. As already stated, he uses two tenses in one sentence.

Impersonating a mod is a bannable offense on most forums. IThat would be ironic.

Are you trying trolling here?

Both are my friends and both have their own faults. :)

if you have nothing more to say about the topic, then don't continue posting in the thread. this isn't rocket science. any more BS and I'll start trimming posts. (that includes you too JB. don't take the bait and reply to trolling)

One thing's for sure -- I don't spend near as much time typing long diatribes about how you don't like a person you've never met. Crazy? I thinketh not.

The basic research is very important. The progressive history of modern civilization has proved that every major breakthrough in basic research raises our ability to understand and change the world, increases innovation in science and technology by developing high technology industry which boosts our economy and culture.

Scientific research is very important. The history of modern cilization proves that every major breakthrough in scientific research raises our ability to understand and change the world. Innovations in science and technology boost our economy and drive our culture.

Too many adjectives that don't mean anything, ie "progressive history". What does that mean? History is always progressive. And "basic research", I assumed you meant basic scientific research, but from that paragraph alone you can't come to that conclusion. It does sound like something a native English speaker would say, although probably in a poorly written essay.

Wow. :argh:

Fine. I give up. JB won't listen to sound advice.

Scientific research is different to basic research. The latter is a research on the basis of science.

So your rewriting is discussible.

So you are saying you don't like to have people disagree with you? I believe that's part of discussion. Which may have something to do with the discussion portion of "Neowin.net > The General Stuff > General Discussion > Now, You Are My English Teacher, Mate!". It is the failure of the writer not the interpreter when their statements are misinterpreted. As I can't see your body language when you type you shouldn't type something that can so easily be misconstrued. Your inability to effectively communicate what you are trying to say is the issue here, as my inability to see your body language is not something that I can realistically correct.

...and then there's that fact that JB didn't write that, and that it's already been written, in 1997, and discussing whether or not it sounds like it was spoken by a native english speaker is a mute point, because it wasn't written by an native english speaker. it's like discussing the grammar in the constitution of the united states.

Isn't it the realm of possibility that people might think he was asking for help? If you factor in that these same people are already well aware of JB?s established history of less than intelligible English, then what we have here is a clear case of miscommunication. Now, I know that?s to be expected when someone is learning a new language, so of course I don?t fault JB for that. However, JB should be aware of his current limitations as they relate to his ability to speak proper AND common English. He should recognize that, as he is learning, people are bound to misinterpret him until he learns how to accommodate for that type of situatJBJB ? Insulting people who are responding to your question with answers that are on topic isn?t going to do much to help anyone; least of all, yourself. The only result you can be sure of is the continuing depletion of people?s patience with you. I mean, it?s not fair for me to order a burger and then complain at the sight of meat because I didn?t specify veggie a veggie burger. Readers on this thread might have assumed you were asking for help because the way your first post is worded isn't really that specific: nowhere does it not make a distinction between asking for an opinion vs. asking for advice. Perhaps in addition to you efforts to learn English, you might want to consider adding tactful social skills on your class roster next semester:pinch:

okay thats it

Many members here who speak English as thier first language cannot seem to understand the most simple statements.

from me: "If you do not have a reply relevant to the topic..move along"

from Spyder: "If you wish to argue with a member, take it to PM. Offtopic posts has been asked to stop by 2 moderators now."

closed..and I need to start giving out warnings to people more often since friendly admonishments seem to fall on deaf ears
