Should AI chatbots replace your therapist? New research says "no." The new study exposes the dangerous flaws in using artificial intelligence (AI) chatbots for mental health support. For the first time, the researchers evaluated these AI systems against clinical standards for therapists. "Our experiments show that these chatbots are not safe replacements for therapists. They don't provide high-quality therapeutic support, based on what we know is good therapy," said Stevie Chancellor, an assistant professor in the University of Minnesota Twin Cities Department of Computer Science and Engineering and co-author of the study. https://medicalxpress.com/news/2025-07-ai-chatbots-therapist.html -

Geekom discounts GT1 Mega, A8, Air12, and IT13 (2025) Mini PCs by up to 24% for Prime Day by Steven Parker If you visit Neowin often, you will know that GEEKOM is a Mini PC hardware brand we've had the pleasure of reviewing for quite a while. It all started back in November of 2022 with the Mini IT11, and we're still reviewing their offerings well into 2025! The latest Mini IT15 review went up yesterday. Anyway, enough about me, this post is to share that during the Amazon Prime Day discounts that are live until the 11th, GEEKOM is also discounting some of its Mini PCs (new and old) by up to 24%. First up, it's the GT1 Mega. It's a Mini PC Neowin has not reviewed, but only because the one that got sent to me did not have a working USB4 DisplayPort. That's quite a major issue, so we were unable to give a fair verdict in the time frame GEEKOM wanted the review to go online. The GT1 Mega came out in the Q4 of last year and boasts an Intel Ultra 9 and 32GB of DDR5 memory. It's truly a powerhouse of a Mini PC, and a quick rundown of its specs is listed below. Intel Core Ultra U9-185H (16 Cores, 22 Threads, 24MB Cache, 65W cTDP, up to 2.3-5.1GHz) Intel ARC Graphics Intel AI Boost 1.4GHz 32GB Dual channel DDR5 5600MT/s,expandable up to 64GB 1x 2TB M.2 2280 PCIe Gen 4 x4 SSD (expandable up to 2TB); 1x M.2 2242 SATA SSD slot, expandable up to 1TB Wi-Fi 7 Bluetooth 5.4 Dual 2.5G LAN RJ45 Windows 11 Pro Normally, the GT1 Mega in this configuration sells for $989, but you can pick it up over the next few days for just $839.99 (buying link below). Next up, it's the Mini IT13 (2025 Refresh). We reviewed both the 2023 variant and the 2025 Refresh. GEEKOM kept to the IT13 branding because it included the top 13th-gen i9-13900HK mobile CPU in this year's version, making what was already a great Mini PC even better. As a reminder of its main specs, you can view those below: 13th Gen Intel Core i9-13900HK (14 Cores, 20T, 24 MB Cache, up to 5.4 GHz) Intel Iris Xe Graphics 96 EU 32 GB Dual-channel DDR4-3200 SODIMM, supports up to 64 GB 1 x M.2 2280 PCIe Gen 4 x4 SSD, 2 TB Windows 11 Pro Bluetooth v5.2 Intel® 10/100/1000/2500 Mbps RJ45 Ethernet Intel® Wi-Fi 6E AX211 This Mini PC only came out in April, and normally costs $749 in this configuration, but you can pick it up over the next few days for just $699 (buying link below). Next, the Mini Air12 is the most affordable offering GEEKOM has in its Mini PC arsenal, and the variant being offered at a hefty 24% discount is the N150 version, with a few of its specs listed below: Intel Alder Lake N150 (4 Cores, 4 Threads, 6MB Cache, up to 3.6 GHz) TDP 6W Intel UHD Graphics (24 EU) One channel DDR5 SODIMM, 4800MT/s, 16GB 1 x M.2 2280 PCIe Gen 3x4 SSD (Lexar NM620 512GB) Windows 11 Pro Bluetooth v5.2 10/100/1000 Realtek PCIe GbE Family Controller Wi-Fi 6 (Realtek 8852BE) Although we reviewed the N100 variant at the time, it is pretty much identical except for the CPU, and we found it to be an excellent choice for a cloud PC, rating it highly. You can view our review here. Normally it sells for $199, but during Prime Days and until July 11, it can be bought at Amazon for just $154.20 (buying link below). Last, but certainly not least, it's a Mini PC powered by one of AMD's top mobile CPUs. We gave it high marks, only faulting it mainly because it isn't possible to add a second M.2 SSD inside it; however, it does have an SD card slot, so you can still add storage if you want. We gave it high marks; this thing will do much of anything you throw at it, if you aren't too worried about serious gaming. Here are some of its highlighted specs: Ryzen 9 8945HS (Base 4.0GHz, Turbo 5.2GHz 8C, 16T, 16MB Cache) cTDP: 35-54W (Default 45W) AMD Radeon™ 780M Graphics 12 RDNA 3 Graphics Cores @ 2700MHz or 2800MHz 768 shading units/stream processors (12 CUs), 48 texture mapping units, and 32 ROPs XDNA architecture (Up to 16 NPU TOPS) 32GB Dual-channel Crucial DDR5-5600MT/s SODIMM (up to 64GB) 1x Acer N5000CN 2TB NVMe M.2 (PCIe Gen 4.0 x4) Windows 11 Pro Bluetooth v5.2 Wi-Fi 6E Normally, this configuration sells for $799, but during the Prime Day event, it can be bought at Amazon for just $639.20 (buying link below), which is a healthy 20% deduction. A quick reminder and rundown of the prices can be viewed below. GT1 Mega (32GB+1TB) $839.99 (was $989) Mini IT13 2025 Refresh (32GB+2TB) $699 (was $749) Mini Air12 (16GB+512GB) $154.20 (was $199) A8 (32GB+2TB) $639.20 (was $799) You can also check out all these Mini PCs at GEEKOM's Amazon Prime Day page. -

I genuinely don't understand why Microsoft doesn't allow the AI tasks to run on a dGPU if it's present. Like, they're orders of magnitude faster than the NPU's inside the mobile chips, so why not?
