Cyberpunk 2077 and Witcher 3 PS5 and Xbox Series X|S upgrades pushed to 2022
      by Asher Madan

Back in 2020, developer CD Projekt RED said Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt would receive free PlayStation 5 (PS5) and Xbox Series X|S upgrades. While the tentative timeline was in 2021, the patches have been pushed back to 2022.

Today, the developer's parent company issued the following press release. Cyberpunk 2077 — the first-person open-world adventure game — should receive upgrades in the first quarter of 2022. Gamers will have to wait a little longer for The Witcher 3 — the third-person open-world RPG experience — because that's expected in the second quarter of 2022.

If you currently have an Xbox Series X|S, you can still play the games by installing them on an external drive, ideally an external solid-state drive to minimize loading. When the patch rolls out next year, you'll have to transfer those files to your internal storage of expansion card.

Will you replay Cyberpunk 2077 and The Witcher 3 when these upgrades are available? Let us know in the comments below.

Sony announces God of War for PC, releases on January 14
      by Pulasthi Ariyasinghe

Following Horizon Zero Dawn and Days Gone, Sony's next first-party game to shed PlayStation exclusivity has been confirmed to be God of War, the Santa Monica Studio-developed title from 2018. Announced on the PlayStation Blog today, the critically acclaimed game is breaching the new platform on January 14, 2022. Pre-orders are already available for $49.99.

While the full slate of improvements the God of War PC port will feature was not detailed today, higher resolution shadows, as well as improvements to screen space reflections and ambient occlusion (GTAO and SSDO), were confirmed. It will also remove frame rate caps, support 4K resolution and ultra-widescreen monitors.

"From the heart-pumping clashes in combat to the quiet moments where you can take in the otherworldly beauty of the Norse wilds across the Nine Realms, our panoramic widescreen support will make every moment feel more like a truly theatrical experience," added the developer.

Fully customizable graphics settings, keyboard shortcuts, and controller support, including the DualSense controller, are also being added. To push the frame rates higher, Nvidia DLSS is being integrated alongside the company's Reflex low latency tech.

To sweeten the deal even further, the following in-game bonuses will be included with every PC copy:

The studio also revealed God of War has so far sold 19.5 million copies on PlayStation consoles alone. A sequel, Ragnarok, is coming to PlayStation 4 and 5 in 2022.

"All of us at Santa Monica Studio have been humbled by the immense amount of support and passions fans of the God of War series have shown in the latest chapter of Kratos’ story since its release," the company said. "Our primary goal when bringing God of War to PC was to highlight the exceptional content the team created and leverage the powerful hardware that the platform offers to create a uniquely breathtaking and high-performance version of the game."

This is the second confirmed PC port of a Sony exclusive coming next year. Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection, containing Uncharted 4: A Thief's End and Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, are landing sometime in early 2022 on PC and PlayStation 5.

Elden Ring delayed until February 2022, network test announced
      by Asher Madan

Recently, gameplay footage from Elden Ring leaked on YouTube. The title is a third-person open-world action game from the acclaimed team at FromSoftware. Elden Ring takes a lot of cues from the Dark Souls series, but gives you more freedom of movement and exploration options.

There was some debate about whether the leaked Elden Ring footage was real, but there's no doubt about that now because it appears to be from the closed network test. Today, publisher Bandai Namco revealed that PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S players would get to jump into the world in November 2021. You can take a look at the exact times below.

Just head over to the game's website to register. Codes will be sent out shortly before the test goes live, and you have until November 1 to sign up. Unfortunately, there's some bad news too.

Instead of launching in January, Elden Ring has been pushed back to February 25, 2022. FromSoftware wants to polish the game further before launch. The COVID-19 pandemic has shifted the development cycle of many games, so it's understandable that the team wants more time to make sure Elden Ring is a great experience for everyone.

Elden Ring gameplay may have just leaked on YouTube
      by Asher Madan

Elden Ring is an upcoming third-person fantasy role-playing game from FromSoftware. The developer is known for its Dark Souls series, and with this game, the team wants to push the boundaries of the genre it helped shape. From what we know, Elden Ring is set in an open-world environment where you go from city to village — and even some dank caves — to get to the bottom of mysterious events happening through the land. You can also hop on a horse to make the journey between areas less taxing. Lastly, the combat is just as challenging as Dark Souls III.

Today, someone on YouTube leaked a small clip of the game. While this could always be an elaborate hoax, we don't think so because the background shows the giant tree that is at the center of events happening throughout Elden Ring. The video has since been made Private, but many viewers managed to upload the clip to other services.

Aside from the beautiful visuals, you'll immediately notice that Elden Ring gives players more freedom of movement. Jumping onto rocks is as easy as pressing a button this time around. You don't have to sprint and then depress a thumbstick to vault a small gap.

Elden Ring is expected to launch on January 21, 2022. The game is a collaboration between Game of Thrones' George R. R. Martin and Dark Souls creator Hidetaka Miyazaki. Given the powerhouses behind this project, it's not surprising as to why there's so much hype and excitement surrounding the game.

Dying Light PS5 and Xbox Series X|S patch in development
      by Asher Madan

Dying Light is a first-person action game that focuses on the aftermath of a zombie outbreak. While the premise may sound rather stereotypical, the parkour and visceral action elevate the experience. It's regarded as a cult classic nowadays, and fans have been asking for a PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S for a while now.

Today, the game's official Twitter account said that the team is working on a patch for current-generation consoles, and that more details would be revealed soon. Given the fact that the sequel, Dying Light 2: Stay Human, was pushed back until 2022, here's hoping that this patch will tide fans over until February.

Dying Light looks great on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, but upgrading it to a higher resolution and faster frame rate should help. The combat is quite fast-paced but feels a little clunky due to last-generation limitations.

You can pick up Dying Light: The Following - Enhanced Edition for $29.99 through the Microsoft Store or the platform of your choice. Furthermore, you can pre-order Dying Light 2 for $59.99 at the same store ahead of its release next year.
