This WD 250GB Hard Drive went belly up so I decided to take photos inside of it using my Canon Rebel 300D.

So shiny :)

There are a couple of pretty strong magnets in there, that are worth keeping.

To me, the most insane thing about HDDs is the heads. They don't touch the platters but they can suck up the info from them. LOL yeah, sorry for the suck up term.

Nice, this reminds me of something, has anyone seen a laptop drive from an external HDD but instead of a SATA header it has a mini USB connector ON the board? I had to try and recover data a couple of weeks ago and was lucky as I was able to bend the pins in the connector to get a stable connection. It was something I have never seen before.

I remember back in 2002 I had a 30GB or maybe it as a 60GB 10,000 RPM SCSI hard drive. Holy Christ that ****er was fast!. That thing booted Windows XP like nobodies business. But Holy ball sack did that hard drive get HOT, you would practically burn yourself if you were to touch it after an hour.

Might have to borrow that photo idea. And yeah, I rip em apart and keep the magnets.

The platters remind me of "gold records" in music certifications

Cool pictures. Sometimes I feel like a crow/raven because shiny things look cool to me.

Don't stick them on skin though....

That is madness,

How can such simplicity contain all our stuff of our computers ...
