What stops someone from going sideways and sliding off the slide?

Exactly my fear. I would love to try that but I know at that speed sliding on thin layer of water any movement can throw you off the slide.

If I did try it and if I did fall off, I'd yell "Jeronimo!!!" or "CANON BALL!" all the way down until the thud!

I'm sure the engineers didn't ever once think about the possibility of people coming off the sides.  It wouldn't have been the most important thing they looked at when designing it.

Here is more pics and a video of it. It actually doesn't look that bad from the ground level as the slope isn't as drastic as you think

It always doesn't look all that bad from the ground. It's like when skiing. From the ground it looks ok. But when you are about to dive in it's a different game.
