IGN 23 minute uncut Xbox One Demo

Well considering the fact that reviews are all over the place regarding the accuracy for voice controls, its clear there are variables at play that don't apply to everyone.

Its also clear that these systems also can get better. The nice thing is that MS can improve the software side of things and do things like bring in more natural speech support and grow the vocabulary overall.

Most reviewers agreed that they were actually enjoying using voice for once and that as long as the accuracy is there, its great.

But lets also remember that this is an optional feature and the UI works just fine with your controller.

It looks a lot better, I would only ask why two people with similar accents have varying experiences. Besides of course the IGN guy getting commands wrong. I would expect MS to update the software to be more natural going forward, shouldn't we expect Xbox to understand both go to Dead Rising and play Dead Rising? That in general is the main reason I think voice commands suck. They need to be natural, not so rigid you have to whack out your printed command list/memorise it.

Mobile phones seem to be pretty good at allowing discrepancies between saying things like "text John" or "send a text to John".

Facial login which I thought was silly on PS4 as well

That's because Facial login on PS4 is silly as it stands now (hold controller, tilt head to side) whereas on XBO you just get in front of Kinect.

I'd hope that could be improved or learned upon, some people naturally speak fast. Americans seem to be really slow in comparison to say British people.

Windows Phone and Windows both improve voice recognition over time as you use it. As this is based on the same back end as Windows Phone (i.e. bing/tell me), it will improve over time.

It's faster than Kinect 1.0 so that's nice. I'm used to talking to the older version so the newer version will be a breeze. It's like people say, you gotta learn how to talk to it. If you're speaking xboxgotomystuff all out in a blur, it just won't catch it.  It's like talking to a small child and in many ways, this tech is pretty young and will improve over time.

heres another video of kinect voice experience, this time with a different accent.

Awesome!  And yeah, the kinect should get better over time.  Accents are really tricky.  I ran into one of the devs working on it while taking my car in for service the other week and he was telling me about the massive effort that they put in towards getting it right.

It looks like it'll work better for some than others or maybe once you get used to it and the timing needed etc then it should work well for everyone.
