[Split] Stablebit Drivepool setup info

Question

OK, you got me. So your Drivepool you use, can this be used with Windows? I want to do the pool options with Windows 8.1....any tutorials, or do I just install? Also, what if I already have media on one of the drives?

Cause yes, this isn't critical data, it's media and can be replaced (though 3TBs worth is a pain to replace lol, but as you said, most of the time it can be recovered).

Here is a new question.

I now have a new 3TB external drive. Does haven't an external (USB 3.0) drive cause any issues in terms of speed with the rest of the drives, or anything I should know?

I have an older 2TB USB 2.0 drive as well, thinking I might as well use them as part of the pool since they aren't really doing anything.

You can use them sure.. If your worried about speed moving the file(s) to the pool, maybe look at this plugin

http://stablebit.com/DrivePool/Plugins

Archive Optimizer

Author: Covecube Inc.

With this plug-in you designate one or more disks as special Feeder disks.

Feeder disks will receive all new files created on the pool.

It will be the balancer's job to move all the files from the Feeder disks to the Archive disks in the background.

You can use this plug-in to designate one or more fast disks as special feeder disks in order to improve write performance.

Do you need the space? What is the point of having X TB online if you only need Y? I don't get the need to have space for the sake of space.. Everytime you look at X space free, telling you I spent money for no reason on disks that is sitting there sucking elec for no reason ;)

I can see having Y+% to allow for use and growth.. But you sure and the hell do not need 2X Y or 3X Y in space.. Unless you plan on using that amount very quickly.

How about you copy your critical files, or files you would least like to rip again and put them on those disk and put them somewhere safe as backup?
