Just remember how most games are going the way of D3D now (I will miss OpenGL).

Let's also remember how much ass NVIDIA's cards drag in D3D. Even when I was a huge NVIDIA fan, I knew that in OpenGL NVIDIA owned the streets, but ATI was the sh!t when it came to D3D. And that's still the case today, but now there's an even bigger gap between ATI and NVIDIA in D3D games.

I was a huge fan of NVIDIA, but now that I own an ATI Radeon 9600 Pro, I will never go back. Seriously. I mean, this thing is just absolutely amazing.

cheaper. No.  Better yes.  ive seen 5900 U 256mb for less that 300$ CAD

They were cheaper, before nvidia finally realized they weren't going to sell their cards unless they greatly reduce their prices. The 5900U was between $400 - $500 US for quite awhile.

I feel sorry for the two that voted the 5900.

personally it hnk the xt is a waste it sjust high clocked speeds may as well just oc your 9800 pro, but id say either way you go youll enjoy a great gaming expierence ive had both nvida and ati and i really like both of them, drivers seem same to me and what not so either way you go youll be happy

FWIW, I used NVidia for years (and still do, personally) and thought they were wonderful, but have recently come to rec latest ATI cards in friends' / relatives' computers and generally found doing so was quite "right".

All other things being equal, at least for now, I'd take recent ATI over recent NVidia without second thought, frankly.

NVidia may "rise again", but I'd easily take the ATI if you're talking relatively recent offerings.

[side note: One thing that can at least be interesting is seeing what the major companies like Dell, perhaps Gateway, come to most frequently offer in their new computers. They tend to be pretty good about selecting defaults / most frequent options as the stuff that's currently looking the "best". Doesn't always work, but can provide a bit of a compass with a small grain of salt, perhaps, if one's totally lost otherwise. A lot of factors are in play with what companies know are their best products, what places like Dell test themselves as best, what they know their customers want....]

Circaflex, XT may be a waste for some users who have already bought the 9600Pro or SE series..but the XT still

gives a boost of 100MHZ in Engine Clock speed (XT=500mhz, Pro=400mhz, SE=325mhz) over the Pro and SE versions (and by golly what a diff it makes) :D

In the end, for people who cant afford the 9800Pro or 9800XT (which is still blody expensive), the 9600XT is still a bang for your buck, and faster than its Pro and SE siblings (oh and it whoops nVidia's ass (in its class) in DX gaming-sad, cuz I was a huge nvidia supporter until last week). But yes CircaFlex, I am also pleased with both video card manufacturers in certain ways. ;)

Well i hate ATIs cards so ill go with GeForce 5900 Ultra 256 MB but too be totally honest ATIs 9800 is faster :) but the Geforce 5950 Ultra it kicks Radeon 9800 Pros ass so you have to go to the 9800 XT for equal performance :)

Its acutally what YOU like thats important not wich is faster because it only acouple of FPS between the cards anyway...

//Edit And no i did not read every post before mine :)

The new Nvidia cards are having more problems with compatability and artifacts than the new ATI cards right now. They are also insanely hot, and they are much louder. The most high-end cards also often take up too much room: If your AGP slot is with your PCI slots, the larger Nvidia cards will take up the PCI slot next the the AGP slot and effectively you lose one PCI slot AND your AGP slot for the graphics card. This does not happen with the Radeon 9800 Pro 256MB - but it may with the 9800XT, the higher clock requires more drastic cooling methods, I can't remember if it's as large as the Nvidia ones though.

I would, without a doubt, get the ATI card.

the Radeon 9800XT is 415/365 (DDR730). Not 500MHz.

I've been a loyal Nvidia users for a while now. My GeForce 3 is still going strong. Although, next card I get may not be an Nvidia card.....

Speaking of, isn't Diamond coming back to the graphics card business? That would rock! I used to love their stuff before they left the market.
